It has been used to detect and identify plant viruses and viroids in different types of matrices and tissues. A viral sequence enrichment method prior to HTS is required to increase the viral reads in the generated data to ease the bioinformatic analysis of generated sequences. In this study, we compared the sensitivity of three viral enrichment approaches, i.e. double stranded RNA (dsRNA), ribosomal RNA depleted total RNA (ribo-depleted totRNA) and small RNA (sRNA) for plant virus/viroid detection, followed by sequencing on MiSeq and NextSeq Illumina platforms. The three viral enrichment approaches used here enabled the detection of all viruses/viroid used in this study. When the data was normalised, the recovered viral/viroid nucleotides and depths were depending on the viral genome and the enrichment method used. Both dsRNA and ribo-depleted totRNA approaches detected a divergent strain of Wuhan aphid virus 2 that was not expected in this sample. Additionally, Vicia cryptic virus was detected in the data of dsRNA and sRNA approaches only. The results suggest that dsRNA enrichment has the highest potential to detect and identify plant viruses and viroids. The dsRNA approach used here detected all viruses/viroid, consumed less time, was lower in cost, and required less starting material. Human movement typically consists of stretch-shortening cycle action. Therefore, plyometric exercises, using an eccentric phase quickly followed by a concentric phase to optimize power production, should resemble daily function more than traditional resistance training, which primarily builds force production capacity in general. However, it is unclear whether older adults can sustain such high-impact training. This study compared the effects of plyometric exercise (PLYO) on power, force production, jump and functional performance to traditional resistance training (RT) and walking (WALK) in older men. Importantly, feasibility was investigated. Forty men (69.5 ± 3.9 years) were randomized to 12-weeks of PLYO (N = 14), RT (N = 12) or WALK (N = 14). We hypothesized that a reservoir of HIV-infected cells actively produce and release virions during ART that are potentially infectious, and that following ART-interruption, these virions can complete full-cycles of replication and contribute to rebound viremia. Therefore, we studied the dynamics of RV sequence variants in 3 participants who initiated ART after ~3 years of infection and were ART-suppressed for >6 years prior to self-initiated ART-interruptions. Longitudinal RV C2V5env sequences were compared to sequences from pre-ART plasma, supernatants of quantitative viral outgrowth assays (QVOA) of cells collected during ART, post-ART-interruption plasma, and ART-re-suppression plasma. This study aimed to document rates and causes of entanglement and trends in local haulout abundance for Steller and California sea lions on the north coast of Washington from 2010-2018. We conducted small boat surveys to count sea lions and document entangled individuals. Rates of entanglement and entangling material occurrence were compared with records of stranded individuals on the Washington and Oregon coast and with packing bands recorded during beach debris surveys. The rate of entanglement for California sea lions was 2.13%, almost entirely composed of adult males, with a peak rate during June and July potentially due to some entangled individuals not migrating to their breeding grounds.
