Ovarian cancer is a common gynecological cancer. Herein, we focused on the function and probable mechanisms of LINC00858 in ovarian cancer.

Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was employed for detecting the expression of LINC00858, miR-134-5p and RAD18 E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (RAD18). Cell proliferation, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and apoptosis were detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU), transwell, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP Nick-End Labeling (TUNEL) and western bolt experiments, as appropriate. Interplays between LINC00858, miR-134-5p and RAD18 were detected by RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), RNA pull down and luciferase reporter assays.

LINC00858 were up-regulated in ovarian cancer tissues and cells, and its expression was elevated in advanced samples compared to early ones. Knocking down LINC00858 inhibited cell proliferation, motility and EMT, but accelerated cell apoptosis in ovarian cancer. Moreover, could be sponged by LINC00858 sponged miR-134-5p to enhance RAD18 expression in ovarian cancer. Also, silenced RAD18 could also restrain oncogenic behaviors of ovarian cancer cells. Rescue experiments showed that overexpressing RAD18 reversed the effects caused by knocking down LINC00858 on cellular processes.

Consecutive patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection for superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinomas localized on the distal side of severe strictures were investigated retrospectively and assigned to a radial incision and cutting (19 patients; 23 lesions) or an endoscopic balloon dilation (20 patients; 20 lesions) group. We evaluated the passage success rates of cap-wearing endoscopes with diameters ≥8.9 mm, the procedural success, en bloc resection, complete resection, major adverse event rates, and total procedure times. Compared to the endoscopic balloon dilation group, the passage success rate of a conventional endoscope with a transparent cap (87% vs. 50%) and procedural success rate (96% vs. 63%) were significantly higher in the radial incision and cutting group. The mean procedure time of 'dilation and ESD' was significantly shorter in the radial incision and cutting group than in the endoscopic balloon dilation group. Neither group experienced any serious adverse events. Analysis of temporal change in the latent prostate cancer pool would be beneficial for clinical decision-making, but longitudinal autopsy studies are rare. We conducted a hand-search of the Annual of Pathological Autopsy Cases in Japan from 1980 to 2016 for cases of latent prostate cancer. Of 570 997 males aged 30 or older, latent prostate cancer was detected in 12 562 patients (2.2%). Proportion of detected cases correlated strongly with 'aging rate', the percentage of population aged 65 or older (squared Pearson's correlation coefficient r2 = 0.972, P value less then 0.0001). Temporal increase in proportion was also seen in each age group as well. This continuous growth reinforces evidence from past Japanese reports on latent prostate cancer. The rapidly rising ageing rate of Japan may forecast further increase in the latent prostate cancer pool moving forward.
