OECs are less well known however they're just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is a myth.

Both types of creationism reject that scientific principles such as biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life began on Earth. They claim that evolution isn't possible because it requires a miracle, and that the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists are able to accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their position "theistic evolution." This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." The theory says that God creates original species and allows them to change over time. In the end these evolutionary changes will create new species that are similar to the original ones.

What exactly is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of high-school textbooks announced recently that they would remove references to evolution in their textbooks. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of the bird, the Archeopteryx. It is now focusing on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research as well as on human evolution too.

STR claims to have the support of around 4000 families and individuals. Its aim is to root out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of undergraduates studying biology revealed that half of them did not believe evolution. The reasons for this are not clear but could be due to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the United States.

The KACR has achieved many things through its lectures and seminar events. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and a book. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences with an evolutionary perspective that sparked interest in college communities. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught until today.

On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon.
