Streptococcus suis naturally colonizes the upper respiratory tract of pigs and can lead to severe disease conditions. Although there are several serotypes associated with disease, untypable isolates have also been observed. The objective of this study was to investigate the relatedness of untypable S. suis isolates detected in clinical cases and healthy pigs in Ontario, Canada, and their relation to typing serotypes. One hundred fifty-six isolates obtained from 33 cases and 26 farm-and-pen-matched control pigs were sequenced using Illumina HiSeq sequencing. Protein sequences of the capsular polysaccharide genes (cps) were identified and analyzed using a maximum likelihood tree. Among the 27 untypable isolates, 3 were from systemic sites of cases and 13 and 11 were from upper respiratory sites of cases and controls, respectively. One hundred fifty-six isolates were grouped into 17 distinct groups based on the cps gene tree. Isolates from these 17 distinct individual cps groups were distributed among a minimum of one farm and maximum of eight farms. Untypable isolates were detected in 12 of those groups and each cps group had untypable isolates present amongst multiple farms. Interestingly, the three systemic untypable isolates not only coexisted with other serotypes found in the same location of the same pigs but were also found among different cps groups. These isolates are of interest and warrant further investigation. Overall, a wide diversity of S. suis among untypable isolates was observed in this study.Members of the Delphinidae family are widely distributed across the world's oceans. We used a viral metagenomic approach to identify viruses in orca (Orcinus orca) and short-finned pilot whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus) muscle, kidney, and liver samples from deceased animals. From orca tissue samples (muscle, kidney, and liver), we identified a novel polyomavirus (Polyomaviridae), three cressdnaviruses, and two genomoviruses (Genomoviridae). In the short-finned pilot whale we were able to identify one genomovirus in a kidney sample. The presence of unclassified cressdnavirus within two samples (muscle and kidney) of the same animal supports the possibility these viruses might be widespread within the animal. The orca polyomavirus identified here is the first of its species and is not closely related to the only other dolphin polyomavirus previously discovered. The identification and verification of these viruses expands the current knowledge of viruses that are associated with the Delphinidae family.
Minimally-invasive techniques offered by interventional radiology (IR) are really helpful in the management of challenging surgical cases. The current report highlights a series of four complex pediatric surgical cases which were successfully managed by specific image-guided techniques.
The first two cases in the present report were infants. One of them had a complicated type-1 choledochal cyst (obstructive jaundice and cholangitis) and was optimized with preoperative percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) under fluoroscopic guidance. The other child had bilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction and presented with urosepsis. Due to failure of retrograde stenting on one side, image-guided percutaneous nephrostomy and antegrade stenting were performed. The third and fourth cases had suffered blunt trauma to the abdomen. While one of them developed multiple pseudoaneurysms and arterioportal fistulae in the liver, the other had transection of the right posterior sectoral duct. Angioembolization of the pseudoaneurysms and embolization of the right posterior sectoral duct were performed for them under image-guidance respectively. The post-procedural course of all the above children was uneventful.

Ambient assisted living technologies (AALTs) are being used to help community-dwelling older adults (OAs) age in place. Although many AALT are available, their acceptance (perceived usefulness, ease of use, intention to use and actual usage) is needed to improve their design and impact. This study aims to 1) identify AALTs that underwent an acceptance evaluation in rehabilitation contexts, 2) identify methodological tools and approaches to measure acceptance in ambient assisted living (AAL) in rehabilitation research, and 3) summarize AALT acceptance results in existing rehabilitation literature with a focus on peer-reviewed scientific articles.
A scoping review was conducted in the following databases Medline, Embase, Cinahl, and PsycInfo, following the Arksey and O'Malley framework (2009). Four acceptance attributes were extracted 'user acceptance', 'perceived usefulness', 'ease of use', and 'intention to use'. Data regarding AALT, participants, acceptance evaluation methods and results were extracted.

To develop and evaluate novel word embeddings (WEs) specific to ophthalmology, using text corpora from published literature and electronic health records (EHR).
We trained ophthalmology-specific WEs using 121,740 PubMed abstracts and 89,282 EHR notes using word2vec continuous bag-of-words architecture. PubMed and EHR WEs were compared to general domain GloVe WEs and general biomedical domain BioWordVec embeddings using a novel ophthalmology-domain-specific 200-question analogy test and prediction of prognosis in 5547 low vision patients using EHR notes as inputs to a deep learning model.
We found that many words representing important ophthalmic concepts in the EHR were missing from the general domain GloVe vocabulary, but covered in the ophthalmology abstract corpus. On ophthalmology analogy testing, PubMed WEs scored 95.0 %, outperforming EHR (86.0 %) and GloVe (91.0 %) but less than BioWordVec (99.5 %). On predicting low vision prognosis, PubMed and EHR WEs resulted in similar AUROC (0.830; 0.826), outperforming GloVe (0.
