The best robot vacuum can vacuum and mop your floors with no effort. It will also leave them spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Be sure to examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair and large particles, and wash them when required. Some models also self-empty their onboard dustbin into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.


The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. cheap robot vacuum is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
