Vacuuming With a Robot Hoover is the Best Hands-Off Model We've Tested
This top-of-the-line Eufy bot is the top hands-off model we've tried so far. It vacuums, mops, self-empties its bin and washes and dry mop pads with no intervention from you.
It's not equipped with the latest cleaning techniques and a bigger docking station, but it delivers stellar performance for less than half the cost of premium robot vacuums. It also features the ability to reach under furniture.
Vacuuming
A robot vacuum is an easy and quick method of keeping your floors spotless. A lot of the models we've selected are designed to run on their own without any involvement from you, so you can set them up to sweep while you're out or start an appointment from your phone. You'll want to select a robot with excellent navigation and object detection to avoid it getting stuck in furniture or on the stairs.
Click To See More are better at picking up pet hairs from rugs than others, which is why it's also important to choose an item that is able to effectively and efficiently clean all flooring types. Find a model with a dust bins that is able to hold plenty of dirt between emptyings and an nozzle that does not lose suction when it rotates to take debris.
Most robots require little to no maintenance other than taking hair that has become tangled off the rotating brush (and wiping down its cameras or sensors as needed) after every cleaning session, and then emptying the dust bin or an automatic emptying base if the robot has one. If you follow these easy routine maintenance steps, your robotic vacuum will last as long as a regular vacuum, and will help keep your home cleaner for longer.
While robot mops are generally less flexible than their vacuum counterparts they do have the ability to suck up the puddles and spills while they're at it. The iLife V3s Pro, a good example of this type of machine, is an excellent option for those who have carpets and rugs or wood floors. It's quiet and has solid navigation capabilities that have helped it overcome obstacles during testing, and the charging dock doubles as a trash bin.
For the best results, choose a robot that can handle both vacuuming and mopping simultaneously. Karcher's RCV 5 can do that, and has other features that are beneficial including a live camera, which broadcasts a grainy picture to your app, so you can monitor your pet or kids as well as a remote control that's easily programable. The navigation isn't as robust as other models in our collection however it is able to lift itself over low thresholds and has an ample 500ml trash bin that doesn't have to be cleaned frequently.
Mopping
Robots that vacuum and mop are relatively new to the market. These robots are more expensive and require an additional tank of water, unlike standalone robots. However, they could be worth the extra expense for those who have staining that is difficult to clean or pets.
The best robots that mop and vacuum also do a great job cleaning floors with no carpets. Many brands are now offering all-in-one machines that can do both jobs extremely well. The Combo J9+ is among the most effective mopping robots that we have tested. It comes with docks that can hold up to 60 days worth of dirt. This is a significant improvement over the Qrevo Pro, which ran out of water after mopping just 30 days' worth of dirt in our tests.
The Tapo RV30 Plus from networking giant TP Link is another excellent two-in-one. It's quiet, compact, and has a clean, fuss-free appearance. In our test rooms, it cleaned the floors efficiently and thoroughly. It was particularly good at cleaning rugs, however it took several runs to clean certain areas of wood that were stained. Its LIDAR navigation system works very well too, avoiding bumping into furniture or tripping over power cords.
It's a bit slow on the stairs, but that's to be expected from a compact robot that's designed to work around obstacles. The only drawback is the mopping pad attachment, which was difficult and wouldn't stay in the right position during our tests. It also lacks the ability of dealing with dust that has dried on and dust, which makes it more like a vacuum than a robot mop.
It's still a great choice for those who prefer a hands-off experience and want to clean low pile or plain carpets equally. It has decent suction, which allowed it to remove dust and pet hair from carpets. One of the most appealing features is its automatic carpet recognition, which boosts the power of the vacuum to take on dirt that is embedded. It's easy to use and the charging dock automatically empty the trash bin when it's full. This is an excellent feature for those who live in apartments.
Cleaning apps
Nearly every robot vacuum mop, sweeper, and vacuum has an app that lets you customize cleaning routines, select rooms to clean, plan cleaning sessions, and change settings such as suction, water level and scrubbing power. Some robots offer intelligent dirt detection, which uses maps and cleaning data to identify dirty areas.
The app allows you to create virtual barriers and no-go zones to protect your robot from potentially dangerous objects such as cords, pet water bowls, and sharp objects. Some models have laser navigation sensors that permit you to create virtual barriers, while others have small physical barriers and boundary strips can be put anywhere you want to block the floor area.
There are still dangers to be aware of, even though the best robot vacuums are able to detect and maneuver around obstacles. The principal brush of a robot could be caught in long cords or curtains and stop it from moving. To prevent this you should rid the area of cords and tie up any curtains that are long.
Some robots will automatically update the software that controls their navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithms, which improves performance and reduces wear and tear on the robot's internal components. It's a good idea periodically to check the website of the manufacturer or your robot's application for updates to the firmware.
If you live in a huge home, select a model with multiple cleaning modes. The iRobot Roomba 11S Max, for instance, can mop and vacuum on carpeted and hard flooring rooms with different suction levels. It can also automatically change to the highest power setting on carpets and increase its scrubbing power with SmartScrub.
A robot with the ability to speak is a great choice if you want to be hands-free. The iRobot Roomba 980 can be operated by Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant. It has a small self-emptying docking system as well as a powerful cleaning motor that makes your floors sparkling.
