The results found 16 metabolites associated with 4NQO-induced rat tongue carcinogenesis. Dysregulated arachidonic acid, fatty acid, and glycine metabolism, as well as disturbed tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and mitochondrial respiratory chains were observed in the animal model. The PLS-DA models of metabolomic results demonstrated good separations between the 4NQO-induced model group and the normal control group.
We found several metabolites modulated by 4NQO and provide a good reference for further study of early diagnosis in oral cancer.

Full-scale biogas production from palm oil mill effluent (POME) was inhibited by low pH and highly volatile fatty acid (VFA) accumulation. Three strategies were investigated for recovering the anaerobic digestion (AD) imbalance on biogas production, namely the dilution method (tap water vs. biogas effluent), pH adjustment method (NaOH, NaHCO
, Ca(OH)
, oil palm ash), and bioaugmentation (active methane-producing sludge) method. The highly economical and feasible method was selected and validated in a full-scale application.
The inhibited sludge from a full-scale biogas reactor could be recovered within 30-36 days by employing various strategies. Dilution of the inhibited sludge with biogas effluent at a ratio of 82, pH adjustment with 0.14% w/v NaOH, and 8.0% w/v oil palm ash were considered to be more economically feasible than other strategies tested (dilution with tap water, or pH adjustment with 0.50% w/v Ca(OH)
, or 1.25% NaHCO
and bioaugmentation) with a recovery time of 30-36 days. The recovered biogas reactor exhibited a 35-83% higher methane yield than self-recovery, with a significantly increased hydrolysis constant (k
) and specific methanogenic activity (SMA). click here The population of
sp.,
sp., and
sp. increased in the recovered sludge. The imbalanced full-scale hybrid cover lagoon reactor was recovered within 15 days by dilution with biogas effluent at a ratio of 82 and a better result than the lab-scale test (36 days).
Dilution of the inhibited sludge with biogas effluent could recover the imbalance of the full-scale POME-biogas reactor with economically feasible and high biogas production performance.

Since the biological tissues have different dielectric properties except the pure resistances, and the permittivity of blood is far larger than that of other brain tissues, here a new method was used to detect events of change at the blood/tissue volume ratio by measuring of the head permittivity. In this paper, we use a self-made parallel plate capacitor to detect the intracranial hemorrhage in rabbits by contactless capacitance measurement. The sensitivity of the parallel-plate capacitor was also evaluated by the physical solution measurement. The results of physical experiments show that the capacitor can distinguish between three solutions with different permittivity, and the capacitance increased with the increase of one solution between two plates. At the next step in the animal experiment, the capacitance changes caused by 2 ml blood injection into the rabbit brain were measured. The results of animal experiments show that the capacitance was almost unchanged before and after the blood injection, but increased with the increase of the blood injection volume. The increase of capacitance caused by blood injection was much larger than that before and after blood injection (P less then 0.01). The experiments show that this method is feasible for the detection of intracranial hemorrhage in a non-invasive and contactless manner.Knowledge of similarities among diseases can contribute to uncovering common genetic mechanisms. Based on ranked gene lists, a couple of similarity measures were proposed in the literature. Notice that they may suffer from the determination of cutoff or heavy computational load, we propose a novel similarity score SimSIP among diseases based on gene ranks. Simulation studies under various scenarios demonstrate that SimSIP has better performance than existing rank-based similarity measures. Application of SimSIP in gene expression data of 18 cancer types from The Cancer Genome Atlas shows that SimSIP is superior in clarifying the genetic relationships among diseases and demonstrates the tendency to cluster the histologically or anatomically related cancers together, which is analogous to the pan-cancer studies. Moreover, SimSIP with simpler form and faster computation is more robust for higher levels of noise than existing methods and provides a basis for future studies on genetic relationships among diseases. In addition, a measure MAG is developed to gauge the magnitude of association of anindividual gene with diseases. By using MAG the genes and biological processes significantly associated with colorectal cancer are detected.Little is known about the genomic diversity of Escherichia coli in healthy children from sub-Saharan Africa, even though this is pertinent to understanding bacterial evolution and ecology and their role in infection. We isolated and whole-genome sequenced up to five colonies of faecal E. coli from 66 asymptomatic children aged three-to-five years in rural Gambia (n = 88 isolates from 21 positive stools). We identified 56 genotypes, with an average of 2.7 genotypes per host. These were spread over 37 seven-allele sequence types and the E. coli phylogroups A, B1, B2, C, D, E, F and Escherichia cryptic clade I. Immigration events accounted for three-quarters of the diversity within our study population, while one-quarter of variants appeared to have arisen from within-host evolution. Several isolates encode putative virulence factors commonly found in Enteropathogenic and Enteroaggregative E. coli, and 53% of the isolates encode resistance to three or more classes of antimicrobials. Thus, resident E. coli in these children may constitute reservoirs of virulence- and resistance-associated genes.
