Conclusion This work shed new light on the potential mechanisms of the therapeutic activity for the combinational use of alginate lyase and antibiotics to treat P. aeruginosa infections in CF lungs or other P. aeruginosa biofilm-related infections.Discovered in 2017, swine enteric alphacoronavirus (SeACoV), also known as swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV) or porcine enteric alphacoronavirus (PEAV), is the fifth porcine CoV identified in diarrheal piglets. The presumed name "SADS-CoV" may not be appropriate since current studies have not provided strong evidence for high pathogenicity of the virus. SeACoV was the most recently recognized CoV of potential bat origin prior to the novel human severe acute respiratory syndrome CoV 2 (SARS-CoV-2), associated with the pandemic CoV disease 2019 (COVID-19). Although SeACoV is recognized as a regional epizootic virus currently, it possesses the most extensive cell species tropism in vitro among known CoVs. This review summarizes the emergence of SeACoV and updates the research progress made from 2017 to early 2020, mainly focusing on the etiology, epidemiology, evolutionary perspective, potential for interspecies transmission, pathogenesis and diagnosis.Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) infection in neonatal piglets can cause up to 100% mortality, resulting in significant economic loss in the swine industry. Like other coronaviruses, PEDV N protein is a nucleocapsid protein and abundantly presents at all stages of infection. Previously, we reported that the N protein of trypsin-independent PEDV 8aa is cleaved during virus replication. In this study, we further investigated the nature of N protein cleavage using various methods including protease cleavage assays with or without various inhibitors and mutagenesis study. We found that PEDV 8aa infection in Vero cells leads to apoptotic cell death, and caspase 6 or 7 can cleave PEDV 8aa N protein at the late stage of the replication. The caspase-mediated cleavage occurs between D424 and G425 near the C-terminal of N protein. We also report that both cleaved and uncleaved N proteins are exclusively localized in the cytoplasm of PEDV infected cells.Background Although international collaborative research has demonstrated a series of benefits in different scientific disciplines, there is no information regarding international collaborative practices in pharmacy practice research. Objectives To map international collaborations published in pharmacy practice research journals between 2009 and 2018. Methods A set of pharmacy practice journals was objectively selected from a previously published mapping of pharmacy journals. The 25 journals that were more representative of the pharmacy practice category with higher class 5 chi-square in a descending hierarchical classification were selected. Non-reviewed journals, and those not published during the selected period, were excluded. Articles published between 2009 and 2018 were imported from Scopus. Only papers classified as "Articles" or "Reviews" were analyzed. The countries of the authors' affiliations were identified. International collaboration was defined as articles with two or more countries in the affiliations. Results The 19 journals analyzed published 22,738 papers, with 16,107 classified as Articles or Reviews. Differences in the international collaboration between journals existed. While a total of 13,214 papers were amenable to be authored in collaboration (2 or more authors, with affiliations recorded), only 1670 (12.6%) were published under international collaboration. A very slight positive trend in the international collaboration rate was found. No correlation existed between the Human Development Index, a composite index incorporating statistical measures of a country's average achievements in health, knowledge and a decent standard of living, and international collaboration. Conclusions Low rates of international collaboration were found in pharmacy practice research articles, although a slightly positive trend was identified. There was an overall association between collaboration and citations received, but no correlation with country development was found.Background Pharmacists increasingly need to provide patient centred activities like medicine management (e.g., medicine use review/home medicine review), screening for chronic illness (e.g., point of care testing for cardiovascular diseases including hypertension and hypercholesterolemia), treatment for chronic conditions (e.g., warfarin for thrombotic prophylaxis), and primary care treatment (trimethoprim, emergency contraceptive pill, and sildenafil). However, the adoption of patient-centred services into practice is still low, and it not known which pharmacist characteristics are associated with the adoption of these services. Objective The primary objective of this study was to investigate whether personality and other characteristics of pharmacy graduates are associated with their intention to provide patient-centred services in the future. Methods The study design was a cross-sectional survey of pharmacy graduates from the University of Otago at the end of 2017. The web-based survey involved several potential determinants (1) the Achievement Goals Questionnaire (Revised), (2) five-factor ('Big Five') model of personality, (3) decision-making style using the Rational Experiential inventory, (4) general self-efficacy, (5) sense of belonging to the pharmacy profession.
