The coefficients of variation of this technique were 1.2-6.7% for Plasmodium knowlesi and 0.3-4.8% for P. falciparum. It allowed determining parasitemia levels of 0.1% or higher, with coefficient of variation smaller than 10%. In terms of the precision range of parasitemia, both high and low ranges showed similar precision results. Pearson's correlation test was used to evaluate the correlation data coming from all methods. A strong correlation of measured parasitemia (r2=0.99, P less then 0.05) was observed between each method. Our study provides a great opportunity to understand the pathophysiological role and impact of the identified unique metabolites and can be extrapolated as specific CVD specific metabolites.Liver fibrosis is a common consequence of chronic liver diseases involved with the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Irisin is a small polypeptide hormone that shows beneficial effects on metabolic disorders. The current study aimed to investigate the biological function of irisin on hepatic fibrosis. A mouse model of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatic fibrosis was established. CCl4-treated mice showed elevated serum levels of AST and ALT, increased collagen accumulation, induced ER stress, and upregulated expressions of pro-fibrotic proteins in the liver compared to the controls. The administration of irisin, however, ameliorated CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis in both cultured HSCs and mice. PKR-like ER kinase (PERK) is a key component of the ER stress-associated signaling pathway. We found that irisin treatment improved the stability of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (HNRNPA1) via regulating the phosphorylation of PERK in mouse livers and isolated HSCs. Also, the knockdown of HNRNPA1 eliminated the hepatoprotective effects of irisin on hepatic fibrosis and ER stress. In summary, this study showed that irisin alleviated ER stress and hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting PERK-mediated HNRNPA1 destabilization, suggesting that irisin may represent a promising therapeutic strategy for patients with liver fibrosis.Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a potentially common sleep disorder in which the upper airways are collapsed either partially or completely. Recently, an increasingly popular OSA treatment has been developed that consists in activating the protrusion muscles of the tongue by stimulating the Hypoglossal Nerve (HGN). In this context, the present work is conducted to propose the design of apnea detector module as part of an implantable HGN stimulator based on the esophageal Pressure Pes signal as a new approach for controlling OSA occurrence. Specifically, an effective real-time apnea event detecting algorithm is put forward. Following the achievement of satisfactory simulation results, attained through the Modelsim simulation tool, we proceeded with assessing the possibility of its hardware implementation on a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device. To this end, the apnea detector module was synthesized and designed. The low power consumption and the small size, characterizing this module, which have made it possible to integrate it as part of a wirelessly-powered implantable HGN stimulator.

Subject search was performed in MEDLINE, ProQuest, PubMed, ISI web of sciences, Google scholar, Cochrane and Scopus databases for randomized clinical trials published in English languages, until December 2020, which assessed the effects of CV on metabolic syndrome related symptoms in clinical trials.

Out of 4,821 records screened, after duplicate and irrelevant exclusion by title and abstract, 20 articles remained for full text screening. Finally a total of 12 articles met the study inclusion criteria and were assessed for study method and results.
