It comes with a large charging dock that can last for months without needing to be emptying and boasts amazing navigation capabilities and auto-emptying on bare floors and carpets. It also has a clever mapping system, and can be programmed to only run for certain times (a useful feature for keeping mischievous children and dextrous animals from running wild). The Shark has less powerful suction than other robot vacuums and mops, but its still very good at picking up hair and pet hair. It is the best value of our top picks.

Best for Hard Floors

Robot vacuums are the best choice for floors made of hardwood, since they can navigate around obstacles without causing damage to the surfaces that are not. They are fantastic at picking up dust and crumbs, but struggle with pet hair or other debris. They lack the suction power of a top-of-the-line upright or canister vacuum, which is why they're not the best choice for carpeted rooms or upholstery that requires deep cleaning.
