The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

This poem is about a person with two different choices, and they need to decide which path to take, whether to take the path that everyone takes (going along with society) or taking the path that not very many people take, it’ll be harder but in the end it will be worth it. I connect with the poem because I am not a society “norm” I believe different things than society does and I do things differently but I believe that it will truly be worth it and more rewarding. I picked this poem because I can relate to it; as well it also gives you a clear image in your mind. My favourite line in this poem is “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,” I like this line because it gives a distinct picture in your head that gives you a visualization of the choices you have to make.
