Voices challenges students to write a 500 words about a local public place they feel strongly about
Competition closes: Friday 27 May, 17:00. Please note, entries will not be accepted after this deadline
3) Top Tips
Entries will be judged on use of descriptive and atmospheric language. Think about how the place looks, sounds and smells like
The place should be a place you feel strongly about, try to provoke a reaction in your reader. Explain why you love or hate the place you've chosen, what makes it significant to you?
You may write a poem, descriptive essay or story. If you write a story, remember to focus on describing the place, rather than characters
The place must be public, so not your bedroom or friend's house. Why not go for a walk in your neighborhood, or visit a wood or local tourist attraction for inspiration?
You should aim to write 500 words, but don't worry if you don't make this number, and of course we expect poems to be a lot shorter
Think about writing in your local dialect - the competition is called Voices, so it would be great if it reflects who you are, and where you come from

5- As always: use your English target; edit your work; and show off your punctuation skills

6- Your final version needs to be in electronic format to be emailed or written and photocopied and sent by post.

7- Use literary devices, underlined and labelled, to demonstrate your understanding of what we have learned in English

8- Your work will also be a representation of your best work of year eight so make it the best that it can be.
