The Best Drip Coffee Machines
Drip coffee makers are robust machines capable of brewing without hands. They can be huge and bulky, taking up valuable counter space or cabinet space.
The top drip machines are streamlined and simple to use. Some drip machines include extras like programmable clocks and self-cleaning mode to make your morning coffee more personalized.
1. De'Longhi TrueBrew
The De'Longhi TrueBrew can be used to make coffee in one step - from whole beans to a carafe of coffee in only a few presses. It comes with a built-in burr grinder (taken directly from De'Longhi's espresso machines) that measures out the proper amount of coffee grounds and compacts them before brewing – eliminating wasteful plastic filters and pods.
It also comes with a variety of options for the size and style, ranging from 3oz espresso-style drinks to 16oz iced brewed coffee or 40oz of the standard carafe. It can dispense coffee into any vessel you like, whether it's a large cup or a tiny espresso cup. It even creates tea!
Bean Extract Technology is a technical term that manufacturers love to use. It "adapts and grinds" beans to suit your preferences. It's actually nothing more than marketing. small filter coffee machine that it's easy to use, fast and doesn't cause many mess while making espresso. It's not able to make a short shot or a long shot espresso and does not have steam wand. If you're looking to get those features, I would suggest looking into the Moccamaster KBGV Select instead.
2. Cuisinart MultiServe
This is among the top drip coffee machines on the market. It makes consistently delicious hot cups of joe that brew efficiently and cleanly using sleek, compact components that are easy to use, and all for a affordable cost.
We also enjoyed the flexibility of modifying the method of brewing. You can select your cup size (from 5-ounce single servings to a full carafe) and the strength you prefer with the simple turn of dials and also choose between either a french press or regular setting. You can prepare cold brew at the push of a button, or choose from a range of specialty options like Over Ice and Roasted.
The only drawback is that it doesn't match the more sophisticated models that we tested. For instance the Smeg drip's rounded machine resembles a sparkling Easter egg and is a refreshing departure from boxy competitors. But its slender water tank and narrow opening can be difficult to navigate, particularly in the dark while the brew is in process. It requires a bit more time and thought to get going in the early morning.
3. Keurig K-Cup brewer
Keurig single serve coffee makers make use of K cups that come pre-packaged that eliminate the need to measure or grind grounds. They also allow you to control the brewing time. These machines also brew one cup of coffee in under two minutes, which is considerably faster than a standard drip machine.
But the Keurigs we've tested make quite a mess, much more than drip machines. The spout that spews hot coffee creates a 2 inch splash area, which leaves droplets all over the drip tray as well as the counter, machine and. They also make an irritating, loud sputtering noise while brewing.
Despite the mess, the Keurigs we've tested perform well. The K-Cafe Smart Keurig is the most sophisticated model, comes with a removable water reservoir, four K cups sizes, three temperature settings and a customizable program. It also comes with a safe dishwasher-safe milk frother which can froth skim, whole, and non-dairy milk. This is a great option for those who want to brew different coffee every morning, or for families that need more capacity.
The Keurig Instant Pod is also a good choice for anyone who is looking for a simple and easy-to-use single-serve device. It boasts a massive 78-ounce water tank that can make many cups before needing to be filled. It can also brew using your own coffee grounds this is a feature that is not often found in a Keurig. The controls are simple and straightforward however, the machine communicates using tones and chirps instead of a display, which makes it difficult to determine the moment when a coffee is ready.
4. Cuisinart Drip Machine
This reliable, mid-priced machine has all the features that you require to get your day started. It comes with a large reservoir that holds 14 cups, and an easy-to-read window to show the water level. It is simple to use thanks to the large buttons and clearly labeled labels. The removable filter and grinder are both easily cleaned in the sink. This removes the need to scrub out the grounds from difficult-to reach places. It also has a handy brew strength selector, which lets you choose between three different settings, including bold.
The reservoir has a charcoal-filter which helps to remove metals, unpleasant flavors and odors from tap water. This could make your coffee to taste dull or burnt. This means less maintenance and a better tasting cup of coffee.
A second benefit: the programmability feature allows you to set your coffee brewing to a specific time. The button to pause lets you pour a cup or two before the whole pot is done making coffee. This is useful for busy mornings, when you need an extra boost of caffeine. It's also a very attractive looking coffee maker, with an elegant design that appears more at home on the counter than the majority of boxy drip machines.
5. Ratio Six
Like its older sibling the Ratio Eight, the Six offers premium quality with a more affordable price and a smaller footprint. The single-button system emulates the pour-over process, and comes with a precise metered flow of water and the ideal temperature for coffee. The machine utilizes 1400 watts of power to heat water and complete the full process in five to six minutes. This is much less than the majority of the cheaper models we've tested. This rapid brew is partially due to the blooming cycle that allows grounds of coffee to settle prior to the shower head that delivers the rest of the water to ensure optimal extraction.
The Six also uses a unique heat shield to safeguard the spray head while brewing and also to ensure that the water is kept at the optimum temperature. This is one of the few brewers that have been Golden Cup certified by the Specialty Coffee Association, which means that it maintains the correct brewing temperature consistently throughout the brew cycle.
The Six is sleek, minimal and minimalist in its design. It features a stainless steel carafe on top of a Melitta flat-bottom filter holder. The insulated carafe keeps brewed coffee warm without the necessity of heating plates, which helps to preserve the flavor.
6. Gevi 10-Cup Coffee Maker
The Gevi is a small and sleek coffee maker that doesn't occupy much counter space. It makes a fantastic tasting cup of coffee. The touchscreen panel has cute icons that let you choose one-touch commands. For instance, you can choose Bold or, if you are only making a half pot of coffee, you can select the One to four cups feature. The machine allows you to set the timer and toggle off or on the audible tone that signifies the end of the brewing cycle.
The built-in grinder as well as the ability to control the grind size and strength of your coffee is a nice addition. It takes some time to get used to the machine, but once you do the machine is easy to use. It has plenty of the features that you'd expect to find on more expensive models.
The only drawback is that it's not able to brew a full carafe at once which could be a challenge if you need to serve multiple people. It's a great choice for those who want a drip coffeemaker with an integrated grinder, and the capability to create different drinks. It has a one year warranty and excellent customer support.
7. Moccamaster KBGV
The Moccamaster KBGV is a premium drip coffee maker built to last. It's made by Technivorm in the Netherlands and comes with a five-year guarantee. Its sleek glass carafe sits atop a warmer that keeps the coffee at a perfect temperature for up to six minutes. It can be programmed to make a full or half pot, and it's certified to brew at ideal temperatures and times recommended by the Specialty Coffee Association. It also has a "practically invisible drip stop," a small lever located below the brew pot which will stop the flow of coffee when you take off the carafe while brewing.
This machine is more expensive than others on the market but it's worth it for those who want to have consistently great coffee without spending a lot in the kitchen. All parts that come into contact with ground or water are easily accessible. While the brew process takes longer than other models, it's quicker than pour-over making. The Moccamaster's unique, reminiscent design of tools used in workshops and scientific devices adds class to your kitchen.
