Objective Examining how presence and experience of personal financial difficulty affects perceived health and wellbeing in individuals with lower limb loss. Study design Cross-sectional study. Methods A total of 90 participants (68 males, mean age 58.7 ± 16.7 years) were recruited from local physical therapy and prosthetic and orthotic clinics, rehabilitation hospitals, and a regional amputee patient support group. All participants were community-dwelling, non-military adults with amputation involving at least one major lower limb joint. Participants were interviewed, and each completed a survey that included basic demographic/medical information, self-reported health and wellbeing (Short-Form Health Survey, SF-36v2), and a question to determine their financial situation after limb-dwelling, non-military adults with lower limb loss. It affects both physical and emotional aspects of wellbeing. Clinicians should be aware how socioeconomic factors may affect social re-integration after amputation.Inorganic chloramines are not commercially available, but monochloramine is produced in situ for disinfection or for use in chemical synthesis. Inorganic chloramines are also formed when free chlorine reacts with nitrogen containing substances, e.g. ammonia and urea, present in chlorinated water sources. Occupational exposure may, therefore, occur in e.g. swimming pool facilities and the food processing industry. Monochloramine is soluble and stable in water and the dominating inorganic chloramine in chlorinated water sources. No clinical effects were seen in healthy volunteers given monochloramine in drinking water during 4 or 12 weeks in doses of 0.043 or 0.034 mg/kg bw/day, respectively. Limited data indicate that monochloramine is weakly mutagenic in vitro but not genotoxic in vivo. One drinking water study indicated equivocal evidence of carcinogenicity in female rats but not in male rats and mice. No reproductive or developmental effects were shown in rodents in the few studies located. Dichloramine is - and dichloramine are insufficient to recommend health-based occupational exposure limits (OELs).As regard trichloramine, the critical effect is judged to be irritation observed in several studies on pool workers, starting at approximately 0.4 mg/m3 (stationary sampling). Based on these data, a health-based OEL of 0.1 mg/m3 (8-h time-weighted average) is recommended. This corresponds to 0.2 mg/m3 for stationary measurements in swimming pool facilities. No short-term exposure limit (STEL) is recommended.Objective The aim of this study is to assess the safety and feasibility of the transperitoneal laparoscopic approach during nephron sparing surgery in patients with previous abdominal surgery. Patients and methods We retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing transperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for renal masses. All patients had received a diagnosis of cT1a renal exophytic mass (⩽5 cm). Patients were divided into two groups, those with and without previous abdominal surgery. Patients with solitary kidney or major previous abdominal surgery were excluded in this study. The operative time, estimated blood loss, length of stay, surgical complications, and positive surgical margins were recorded to compare outcomes among two groups. Results Of the 157 patients who were included in our study, 71 (45.3%) had a history of abdominal surgery (Group 1), while the remaining 86 (54.7%) had not (Group 2). Cholecystectomy was the most common previous surgery performed near the renal fossa. Patients with previous abdominal surgery experienced increased operative time (111.5 vs 83.2 min; p = 0.001). However, no statistically significant difference was found in estimated blood loss (122.1 vs 114.4 mL; p = 0.363), length of stay (4.1 vs 3.8 days; p = 0.465), rate of conversion to open surgery (2.8% vs 2.3%; p = 0.234), and rate of complications (p = 0.121). However, operative time (p = 0.003) and length of stay (p less then 0.001) were greater in patients with versus those without previous open cholecystectomy. Conclusion Our results suggest that laparoscopic partial nephrectomy after minor previous abdominal surgery is safe and feasible in selected patients affected by renal masses with low nephrometry score. However, previous cholecystectomy results in an increased risk of conversion to open surgery and longer hospital stay in patients undergoing right laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.Objectives The study objective was to investigate the prevalence and clinical characteristics of phenobarbitone-associated adverse effects in epileptic cats. Methods The medical records of two veterinary referral clinics from 2007 to 2017 were searched for cats fulfilling the inclusion criteria of a diagnosis of epilepsy, treatment with phenobarbitone and available follow-up information on the occurrence of adverse effects. Follow-up information was obtained from the medical records of the primary veterinarian and referral institutions and a questionnaire completed by the cats' owners. Results Seventy-seven cats met the inclusion criteria. Fifty-eight were affected by idiopathic epilepsy and 19 by structural epilepsy. One or more of the following adverse effects were reported in 47% of the cats sedation (89%); ataxia (53%); polyphagia (22%); polydipsia (6%); polyuria (6%); and anorexia (6%). Logistic regression analyses revealed significant associations between adverse effect occurrence and both phenobarbitonbarbitone starting dosage and the addition of a second AED were significantly associated with the occurrence of adverse effects.Persistent post-traumatic headache (PPTH) is often the most common injury post mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), reported by 47%-95% of patients. Inclusion criteria were that subjects had to meet ICHD-3 criteria for PPTH secondary to mTBI, have four or more headache days a month, be age 18-85 and 3-12 months post injury, own a smartphone and not tried headache behavioral therapy within the year. We recorded baseline headache and neuropsychiatric data. Using the RELAXaHEAD smartphone application, which has a headache diary and PMR audio files, participants were instructed to record headache symptoms and practice 20 minutes of PMR daily. There were three monthly follow-up assessments. There were 49 subjects enrolled.
