Effect of preoperative biliary water drainage in postoperative results within hilar cholangiocarcinoma.
The flipped classroom (FC) is a pedagogical model that can be very useful in obtaining a dentistry degree. The main objective of this study was to compare learning between student groups introducing FC in the area of paediatric dentistry at the Complutense University of Madrid in 2019.

In this study, 76 students enrolled for the first time in the Pediatric Dentistry programme and completed a questionnaire (pre-Q) regarding specific theoretical knowledge about pulpotomies. Subsequently, they were divided into two groups group A, which had free access before the class to an explanatory video about the indications and techniques of pulpotomy and group B, which viewed the same video only one time in class. After that, all students completed the same questionnaire (post-Q) again and a survey on the degree of satisfaction about the teaching method.

The differences in score between the post-Q and pre-Q in group A had a mean (SD) value of 3.5 (2.4) and in group B, a mean (SD) of 2.5 (2.2), with a p value of .07. In questions 3, 5 and 8, learning was greater in the experimental group (p=.007, p=.02 and p=.001, respectively). For 74.4% of the students in group A, accessing the video previous to the class was a very useful tool.

These results suggest that implementing FC in paediatric dentistry classes help students to acquire more theoretical knowledge, which is necessary before practical teaching.

Cytokines, the small protein signaling molecules that constitute the thyroid tumor microenvironment, play significant roles in the facilitation of intercellular communication and the control of tumorigenesis. Also, more attention should be paid to the molecular events within the innate and adaptive immune systems that occur after the organism being exposed to ionizing radiation. Therefore, we implemented a study of 260 patients with DTC in thyroid hormone withdrawal status who were treated with total thyroidectomy to explore the relationship between cytokines and recurrence/active disease status. Besides, we made a cross-sectional study to analyze pre- and post-ablation serum concentration of cytokines of 86 patients with DTC. There was a relationship between clinicohistopathological characteristics of patients with DTC and the presence of cytokines. It is noteworthy that patients with recurrence/active disease were at a higher serum interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) level than the disease-free patients (213.59 ± 75.43 pg/ml vs. 186.80 ± 77.40 pg/ml, P = 0.005). Positive correlation was observed between serum IL-2R and thyroglobulin (Tg) (P = 0.003). We also found significant changes in the cytokine profile after radioiodine ablation, including the decrease of tumor necrosis factor-α and IL-8 (P  less then  0.001, P  less then  0.001, respectively), and increase of IL-2R (P  less then  0.001). Thus, we suggest that serum IL-2R may assist in evaluating the disease status during the post-thyroidectomy follow-up and radioiodine therapy has an immunoregulatory effect on serum cytokines.Tissues undergo a process of degeneration as the body ages. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been found to have major potential in delaying the aging process in tissues and organs. However, the mechanism underlying the anti-aging effects of MSC is not clear which limits clinical applications. In this study, we used adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) to perform anti-aging treatments on senescent cells and progeroid animal models. Following intervention with ADSCs, replicative senescence was delayed and metabolic homeostasis was transformed from catabolism to anabolism. Metabolomic tests were used to analyze different metabolites. We found that ADSCs acted to accelerate mitophagy which eliminated intracellular ROS and improved the quality of mitochondria. These processes acted to regulate the cellular metabolic homeostasis and ultimately delayed the process of aging. Allogeneic stem cell therapy in a Progeria animal model (DNA polymerase gamma (POLG) knockin, mitochondrial dysfunction) also showed that ADSC therapy can improve alopecia and kyphosis by promoting mitophagy. Our research confirms for the first time that allogeneic stem cell therapy can improve aging-related symbols and phenotypes through mitochondrial quality control. These results are highly significant for the future applications of stem cells in aging-related diseases.
What is the central question of this study? Are regional differences in nitric oxide (NO)-dependent cutaneous vasodilatation during local skin heating present in young adults? What is the main finding and its importance? NO-dependent cutaneous vasodilatation varied across the body. The abdomen demonstrated larger NO contributions, while the chest demonstrated smaller NO contributions, compared to other regions. This exploratory work is an important first step in characterizing regional heterogeneity of cutaneous microvascular control across the torso and limbs. Equally, it serves to generate hypotheses for future studies examining regional cutaneous microvascular control in ageing and disease.

Regional variations in cutaneous vasodilatation during local skin heating exist across the body. selleck chemicals llc While nitric oxide (NO) is a well-known modulator of this response, the extent of regional differences in NO-dependent cutaneous vasodilatation during local skin heating remains uncertain. In 16 habitually active young abetween limb regions (range 0-2% CVCmax ). These findings advance our understanding of the mechanisms influencing regional variations in the cutaneous vasodilator response to local skin heating in young adults. The mitochondria-associated membrane (MAM) is a functional subdomain of the endoplasmic reticulum membrane that tethers to the mitochondrial outer membrane and is essential for cellular homeostasis. A defect in MAM is involved in various neurological diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Recently, we and others reported that MAM was disrupted in the models expressing several ALS-linked genes, including SOD1, SIGMAR1, VAPB, TARDBP, and FUS, suggesting that MAM disruption is deeply involved in the pathomechanism of ALS. However, it is still uncertain whether MAM disruption is a common pathology in ALS, mainly due to the absence of a simple, quantitative tool for monitoring the status of MAM. In this study, to examine the effects of various ALS-causative genes on MAM, we created the following two novel MAM reporters MAMtracker-Luc and MAMtracker-Green. The MAMtrackers could detect MAM disruption caused by suppression of SIGMAR1 or the overexpression of ALS-linked mutant SOD1 in living cells. Moreover, the MAMtrackers have an advantage in their ability to monitor reversible changes in the MAM status induced by nutritional conditions.
