Despite a large literature on household finances and relationship quality, little is known about the degree of couple-level agreement on finances and its association with relationship outcomes. This study examines the relationship between financial concordance on household-level consumer debt and relationship quality, and the strength of the association after accounting for couple-level financial management practices. We apply hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) to couple-level data from a sample of married and cohabiting couples with children (435 couples, 870 respondents) from the Marital and Relationship Survey (MARS) and find that concordance on total household credit card debt is common but not the norm, with 55% of couples agreeing on their outstanding debt amount within our sample. Debt concordant couples have greater relationship satisfaction even after accounting for the outstanding debt amount, financial management practices such as income pooling, and joint purchase decisions, as well as relationship characteristics like their marital status, relationship duration, and the number of children in the household. We also find that disagreements related to financial issues attenuate the debt concordance and relationship quality association. Our results highlight the importance of including objective measures of household finance when assessing relationship quality.Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are persistent organic pollutants associated with metabolic disruption and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Based on their ability to activate the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), PCBs are subdivided into two classes dioxin-like (DL) and non-dioxin-like (NDL) PCBs. Previously, we demonstrated that NDL PCBs compromised the liver to promote more severe diet-induced NAFLD. Here, the hepatic effects and potential mechanisms (by untargeted liver proteomics) of DL PCBs, NDL PCBs or co-exposure to both in diet-induced NAFLD are investigated. Male C57Bl/6 mice were fed a 42% fat diet and exposed to vehicle control; Aroclor1260 (20 mg/kg, NDL PCB mixture); PCB126 (20 μg/kg, DL PCB congener); or a mixture of Aroclor1260 (20 mg/kg)+PCB126 (20 μg/kg) for 12 weeks. Each exposure was associated with a distinct hepatic proteome. Phenotypic and proteomic analyses revealed increased hepatic inflammation and phosphoprotein signaling disruption by Aroclor1260. OSI-906 clinical trial PCB126 decreased hepatic inflammation and fibrosis at the molecular level; while altering cytoskeletal remodeling, metal homeostasis, and intermediary/xenobiotic metabolism. PCB126 attenuated Aroclor1260-induced hepatic inflammation but increased hepatic free fatty acids in the co-exposure group. Aroclor1260+PCB126 exposure was strongly associated with multiple epigenetic processes, and these could potentially explain the observed non-additive effects of the exposures on the hepatic proteome. Taken together, the results demonstrated that PCB exposures differentially regulated the hepatic proteome and the histologic severity of diet-induced NAFLD. Future research is warranted to determine the AhR-dependence of the observed effects including metal homeostasis and the epigenetic regulation of gene expression.Remediation and recovery efforts after a release of Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) spores may be difficult and costly. In addition, response and recovery technologies may be focused on critical resources, leaving the small business or homeowner without remediation options. This study evaluates the efficacy of relatively low levels of hydrogen peroxide vapor (HPV) delivered from off-the-shelf equipment for the inactivation of Bacillus spores within an indoor environment. Decontamination evaluations were conducted in a house using both Bacillus atrophaeus var. globigii (Bg; as surrogates for B. anthracis ) inoculated on the carpet and galvanized metal as coupons and Geobacillus stearothermophilus (Gs) as biological indicators on steel. The total decontamination time ranged from 4 to 7 days. Using the longer exposure times, low concentrations of HPV (average levels below 20 parts per million) effectively inactivated Bg and Gs spores on the materials tested. The HPV was generated with commercial humidifiers and household-strength hydrogen peroxide solutions. The presence of home furnishings did not have a significant impact on HPV efficacy. This simple, inexpensive, and effective decontamination method could have significant utility for remediation following a B. anthracis spore release, such as following a terrorist attack.Falling is one of the leading causes of accidental injury and death among elderly adults and construction workers, with costs exceeding US$31 billion each year. Having good balance reduces the likelihood of falling - therefore it is important to determine which possible factors might influence balance. The purpose of this study was to determine if consuming three different types of breakfast altered blood glucose levels in such a way that young healthy individual's balance control was compromised. Balance was then measured while the subjects completed single- and dual-task standing trials with eyes open and closed. Although changing blood glucose did alter quiet standing balance - as measured by the separation distance between the COG and COP, the velocity of the COM, and the total distance traveled by the COG and COP along the anterior-posterior (AP) and medial-lateral (ML) axes - the results were contradictory to what was hypothesized. Subjects with lower blood glucose swayed less than those with higher blood glucose. This could potentially be due to the habitual skipping of breakfast in young adults. Though the changing of blood glucose did influence quiet standing balance of young healthy adults, it was not in a way which increased the risk of falling.This is a case report of monophasic synovial sarcoma involving right brachial plexus. Clinical and radiological examination is not very useful in diagnosis. Histopathology showed spindle cells with occasional mitotic figures. Immunohistochemistry showed positivity for EMA, S-100, Mic-2, Bcl-2, Calponin, TLE-1 and CD-56. Chromosomal translocation t (X;18) (p11.2;q11.2) and chimeric fusion proteins SYT/SSX1 or SYT/SSX2 are formed. Wide local excision of the tumour with involved brachial plexus and later reconstruction of the brachial plexus using sural nerve grafts was done. Patient showed full recovery. Wide excision and radiotherapy is the accepted mode of treatment.
