Vacuuming With a Robot Hoover is the Best Hands-Off Model We've Tested
This top-of-the-line bot from Eufy is the most hands-free model we've seen so far. It vacuums, mops and self-empties and dry mop pads without your intervention.
It lacks advanced cleaning modes and a larger docking station, but provides stellar performance for less than half the cost of high-end robotic vacuums. It has a compact design and can reach under furniture.
Vacuuming
Vacuuming using a robot hoover is a simple, quick way to keep your floors looking and feeling clean. A lot of the models we've selected are designed to operate without your involvement and you can set them up to sweep while you're away or trigger an appointment from your phone. You'll want to select a robot with excellent navigation and object detection to avoid getting stuck under furniture or falling down the stairs.
Certain models are better at picking up pet hair from rugs than others, so it's crucial to select the right model that will effectively and efficiently clean all types of flooring. Find a model with a a dustbin that is able to hold plenty of dirt between emptyings and an nozzle that does not lose suction when it rotates to remove debris.
Most robots need little to any maintenance, other than removing tangled hair from the rotating brush (and wiping down its cameras or sensors, when needed) after every cleaning session, and then emptying the dustbin or using a self-emptying base when the robot is equipped with one. If you follow these easy routine maintenance steps, your robotic vacuum should last as long as a regular vacuum cleaner and keep your home clean for longer.
While robot mops tend to be less flexible than their vacuum counterparts they do have the ability to suck up the puddles and spills while they're working. The iLife V3s Pro, a great example of machine, is a fantastic choice for those with carpets, rugs, or wood flooring. It's quiet and has excellent navigation capabilities that allowed it to avoid obstacles during testing and the charging dock can also double as a trash bin.
Pick a robot vacuum cleaner that is able to mop at the same time. Karcher's RCV 5 is able to do that, and also has other features that are beneficial, such as a live camera, which sends a blurry image to your app so you can monitor your pet or children and a remote control that is easily programmed. self cleaning vacuum isn't as robust as the other models in our selection, but it can lift itself over low thresholds and has an ample 500ml trash bin that doesn't have to be emptying often.
Mopping
Robots that vacuum and mops are relatively new to the market. These robots are more expensive and require an additional tank of water than standalone robots. However, they might be worth the extra cost for those who have stains that are difficult to clean or pets.
Some of the top robots can clean floors and carpets as well as vacuum. Many brands offer robots that can do both jobs very effectively. The Combo J9+, as an example, is among the top mopping machines we've tested. It has an impressively large dock that can accommodate up to 60 days worth of dirt. This is an enormous improvement over the Qrevo Pro which ran out water after just mopping 30 days of dirt during our tests.
The Tapo RV30 Plus from networking giant TP Link is a great two-in-one. It's small quiet and has a neat, fuss-free look. In our test rooms, it was able to clean the floors thoroughly and precisely - it did particularly well on rugs, but it required several runs to completely clean certain areas of soiled wood. Its LIDAR navigation is effective, too. It prevents hitting furniture or running over power cables.
It's a little slow on the stairs, but that's to be expected from a compact robot that is designed to work around obstacles. The only downside is that the mopping pads are fiddly to attach and didn't remain in place during our tests, and it lacks the ability to handle dried-on dirt, which makes it more like a vacuum cleaner rather than a full-fledged mop.
It's still an excellent choice for those who prefer a hands-off experience and want to clean low pile or bare carpets equally well. It has a decent amount of suction, which allowed it to pick up fine dust and pet hair from carpets. A good feature is its automatic recognition of carpets, which boosts the power of the vacuum to tackle dirt that has been embedded. It's also user-friendly and has a handy charging dock that automatically empty the dust bin when it's filled, which is a real boon for those who live in flats.
Cleaning apps
The majority of robot vacuums, mops, and sweepers have an application that allows you to alter the cleaning routines. You can also pick rooms to be cleaned, plan cleaning sessions and change settings such as suction, scrub strength and water levels. Certain robots also provide intelligent dirt detection, which utilizes past cleaning data and map data to prioritize dirty areas and optimize cleaning mode.
You can also use an app to create virtual barriers and no go zones to protect your robot safe from potentially dangerous objects, like cords and pet water bowls. Some models come with laser navigation sensors that allow you to create virtual barriers, while others feature small physical barriers and boundary strips that can be placed wherever you wish to restrict your floor space.
There are still dangers to be aware of even though the best robot vacuums can recognize and avoid obstacles. The principal brush of a robot could be caught in long cords or curtains, and stop it in its tracks. To prevent this from happening, you can clear the area of cords and tie up any long curtains.
Some robots automatically update their software which controls the navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithm. This enhances performance and reduces wear and tear of the robot's internal parts. It is a good idea to regularly to check the website of the manufacturer or the application for updates to the firmware.
If you own a large home, look for models that have multiple cleaning modes. The iRobot Roomba 11S Max, for instance, can mop and vacuum both hard floors and carpeted rooms with different suction levels. It also has the ability to automatically switch to the highest power setting for carpets and boost its scrubbing power with SmartScrub.
If you're looking to be hands-off, a robot with the ability to speak to a voice-activated assistant is a great option. The iRobot Roomba 980, for instance, is able to be operated with a simple command from Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant. It has a small self-emptying docking system as well as a powerful cleaning motor that will leave your floors sparkling.
