Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum can keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency you have to manually vacuum. Look for one that offers an easy navigation, can sweep corners and stairs, and has a large dust bin that needs emptying only periodically.
There are models that mop and charge themselves, which is a feature essential for families with pets or children. The top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ an excellent option for those looking for an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.
Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from hard floors and carpets, and they are very good in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. However, unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we test the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features and therefore it could be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty navigating across surface transitions like from hardwood to carpet.
iRobot suggests that you clean the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it might come across. Also, keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+'s internal bin is filled or the battery is empty, it returns to its docking station and automatically empties its trash into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning where it started. Battery life is about an hour and a half of constant use. It takes about three hours to charge.
2. IRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most important feature is the self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot with voice or through the app.
In our testing, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin that eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines and to move around the room and sweep the area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world of vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model is an automobile. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households, but it also fits in well next to a coffee table or on shelves where you can wave it around like the magic tool.
The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large particles or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to the specific task. It is able to swiftly change from handheld to floor vacuum, and vice versa.
This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments as well as an wand clip. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its limited running time. The claims of its marketing that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is a typical, not an exceptional, time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. This is enough time to clean the typical home, but not enough to get into every corner. (A second run is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on an expensive robot. It was able to remove the majority of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently went over the same area several times for a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and the edges of walls.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, like our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It can get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its home base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects in that it has fewer components that require regular cleaning It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges faster.
The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most purposes, because it has a longer battery life, can change its suction power mode manually, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more durable, has a stronger motor, and performs better on floors with bare or low-pile.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a well-known brand in the field of home electronics. It's not surprising that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app gives you plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior customization, docking frequency settings, and more. It's easy to comprehend and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding taller objects like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a problem for some shoppers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that can be accessed via the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you keep track of your pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned to ensure a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that self-empties and helps keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning run.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. They have a wider cleaning path and a larger dustbin that holds 2X more debris than the competition to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. Additionally, they come with two side sweepers that clean up around edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which senses whether it's picking up dirt on surfaces or embedded dirt and automatically adjusts its power level. The vacuum also has an app that allows users to see a virtual map, control functions, and set schedules. You can also check the status of the vacuum and then send it to its dock for charging with the click of a button. The app lets you alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to determine where it is focused or if it has gotten stuck.
The app allows you to manually steer the robot when needed. For instance my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that tends to make it difficult for other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL however, continued to move across the border without registering the high point. Also, the ability to program the weekly cleaning schedule is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
