Of 2,967 invited specialists from 20 territories, 2,074 (69.9%) took part. 60.5% were from China. 42% of all respondents worked in Intensive Care units where respiratory therapists were present. 78.9% used a spontaneous breathing trial as the initial weaning step. 44.3% frequently-always used pressure support alone, 53.4% intermittent spontaneous breathing trials with pressure support in between and 19.8% synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation with pressure support as a weaning mode. 56.3% routinely stopped feeds before extubation. 71.5% generally followed a sedation protocol or guideline. 61.8% worked in an Intensive Care unit ized weaning.
A substantial minority of Asian Intensive Care specialists do not wean patients in accordance with best available evidence or current guidelines. There is clinical equipoise regarding the benefit of protocolized weaning.In this study, the mercury (Hg) emission, speciation, and mass distribution of four coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) located at central, southern, and northern Taiwan with various types of air pollution control devices were investigated. Gaseous Hg in the coal-combustion flue gas was sampled by using the Ontario Hydro method, and the solid and liquid samples were collected for understanding the Hg mass balance. The experimental results showed that the total Hg concentrations in flue gases at the inlets of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) varied from 2.984 to 4.692 μg Nm-3, while the total Hg concentrations in the flue gases at the stacks ranged from 0.240 to 0.675 μg Nm-3. These four CFPPs showed similar Hg speciation results at the stacks. The average Hg removal efficiencies of Plants 1 (SCR + electrostatic precipitator [ESP] + wet flue gas desulfurization [WFGD]), 2 (SCR + ESP + WFGD), 3 (SCR + bag filter (BF) + seawater flue gas desulfurization [SWFGD]) and 4 (SCR + BF + SWFGD) were 92.4%, 90.1%, 85.9%, ng the Hg emission inventory of CFPPs and provides useful information for selecting adequate air pollution control devices (APCDs) for Hg control.The accelerated urbanization in China has caused intensified micro-pollution problems for drinking water sources, severely challenging drinking water treatment efficiencies and its biostability. This study mainly investigated the effects of ozonation on disinfection by-product formation potentials (DBPFPs) and biological dissolved organic carbon (BDOC) in a pilot-scale ozonation-biological activated carbon advanced drinking water treatment plant with micro-polluted raw water. The results indicated that the micro-polluted water would be effectively treated in the advanced treatment processes with DBPFPs significantly eliminated. The total removal rates of trihalomethane formation potentials (THMFPs) and haloacetic acid formation potentials (HAAFPs) increased with the elevated ozone dosage to finally a relatively stable stage, and the maximum removal rates of 77.3% and 57.0%, respectively, were achieved at the ozone dosage of 2 mg/L. The bromine incorporation in total THMFPs (TTHMFPs) was dramatically suppressed after integrated advanced treatment processes, while that in total HAAFPs (THAAFPs) was promoted with the corresponding increment of up to 25.3% for bromine incorporation factor, which caused relatively high brominated HAAFP proportions in the treated water than in the raw water. In addition, the BDOC generation rate and THAAFP removal rate during the post-ozonation treatment displayed apparent positive correlation, and a similar relationship was observed for the BDOC degradation rate and TTHMFP removal rate during the BAC treatment in the studied ozone dosage (1 ∼ 5 mg/L). The findings strongly implied a promising alternative to measure DBPFP removal rate instead of BDOC level for more sensitive and convenient monitoring of the biostability in the reclaimed water.Reflection-impulsivity is a dimension of cognitive or decision-making style. Study 1 showed more accurate and more efficient performance as athletic expertise increased. Study 2 revealed better effectiveness and efficiency following sport participation, a 16-week playing season, most notably in elite-level performers. No sport-type differences were noted. Taken together, the studies demonstrate an association between reflection-impulsivity and athletic expertise, while also providing evidence that competitive sports participation leads to efficient decisions based on reflection, without sacrificing accuracy, which is often a consequence of impulsive decision-making.Within Peru, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer/questioning (LGBTIQ) groups experience significant levels of violence, particularly LGBTIQ youth. This study explored youth responses to violence in two cities Lima and Ayacucho. We sought to formulate key factors facilitating LGBTIQ youth resilience to inform local practice and policy. Focus groups were conducted with youth that self-identified as gay and transgender. We used thematic analysis to identify both inductive and deductive themes. Deductive themes were driven from resilience and structural violence theories. Structural and direct violence was reported by all youth with differences regarding the role of self, place and people in their resilience pathways. Despite experiencing everyday violence, LGBTIQ youth participants displayed remarkable resilience, though the resilience strategies and experiences of violence were distinctive for each group. Transgender youth relied more on their collective rather than individual resilience. In contrast, gay youth revealed a high level of individual resilience.
