In adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients, mechanical consequences of posterior spinal fusion within the spine remain unclear. Through dynamic assessment, gait analysis could help elucidating this particular point. The aim of this study was to describe early changes within the spine following fusion with hybrid instrumentation in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis, using gait analysis MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a single-centre prospective study including AIS patients scheduled for posterior spinal fusion (PSF) using hybrid instrumentation with sublaminar bands. Patients underwent radiographic and gait analyses preoperatively and during early postoperative period. Among gait parameters, motion of cervicothoracic, thoracolumbar and lumbosacral junctions was measured in the three planes.

We included 55 patients (mean age 15 years, 84% girls). Fusion was performed on 12 levels and mean follow-up was 8 months. There was a moderately strong correlation between thoracolumbar sagittal motion ane sagittal plane, we found that thoracolumbar extension within the fused area led to decreased extension at cervicothoracic and lumbosacral junctions. Even though consequences of such phenomenon are unclear, attention must be paid not to give a too posterior alignment when performing PSF for AIS patients.
Opioid use disorder (OUD) is highly comorbid with stress-related disorders, and stress can serve as a trigger for reinstatement of drug seeking. Glucocorticoid receptor (GR) antagonists such as mifepristone (RU-486) may be effective against stress-induced drug seeking. In the current study, PT150 (formerly ORG-34517), a more selective GR antagonist, was tested using two models of stress-induced drug seeking, namely footshock and yohimbine.

Adult male and female Sprague-Dawley rats were trained to self-administer fentanyl (2.5 μg/kg/infusion, i.v.) in a model of escalation. Barasertib Rats then received 7 days of abstinence, followed by extinction; PT150 (0, 50 or 100 mg/kg in Nutella®; p.o.) treatment started on the first day of extinction training and continued daily until the end of the study. Following 14 days of extinction, rats were tested for reinstatement following footshock and yohimbine (0, 1, or 2 mg/kg; i.p.), tested in counterbalanced order; PT150 or placebo treatment occurred prior to each extinction and reinstatement session.

Prior to initiation of PT150 treatment, females self-administered greater levels of fentanyl during 1-h sessions compared to males; however, when switched to 6-h sessions, males and females self-administered similar levels of fentanyl and showed a similar escalation of intake over time. PT150 had no effect on extinction of self-administration. While both footshock and yohimbine reinstated fentanyl seeking, only footshock-induced reinstatement was decreased by PT150 (50 and 100 mg/kg). The effect of PT150 on footshock-induced reinstatement was driven primarily by males.

We assume that each individual can take measures to reduce the probability of contagion, and the level of effort each agent applies can change due to social interactions. We propose simple rules to model the propagation of behaviors that modify the level of effort, and analyze their impact on the dynamics of the disease. We derive a two dimensional set of ordinary differential equations describing the dynamic of the proportion of the number of infected individuals and the mean value of the effort parameter, and analyze the equilibria of the system. The stability of the endemic phase and disease free equilibria depends only on the mean value of the levels of efforts, and not on the initial distribution of levels of effort.The current study reports a pre-registered investigation into the interrelations between mathematics anxiety, metacognition and mathematical decision-making. Although this question has already received some attention in previous work, reliance on self-report measures of metacognition has hindered its interpretation. Here, a novel experimental mathematical decision-making task was used in which participants solved mathematical assignments of varying difficulty, and expressed their level of confidence in the accuracy of their decision both prospectively and retrospectively. Mathematics anxiety was measured using a standardized questionnaire. Both prospective and retrospective confidence judgments predicted unique variation in accuracy; however, the explanatory effect of prospective confidence disappeared after taking task difficulty into account. This suggests that prospective, but not retrospective, confidence is largely based on easily available cues indicative of performance. Results of a multiple regression analysis indicated that individual differences in mathematics anxiety were negatively related to the overall level of confidence (both prospectively and retrospectively), and positively related to metacognitive efficiency (only prospectively). Having insight in these interrelationships is important in the context of remediating mathematics anxiety, which might in turn be useful with regard to the worldwide need for more workers with degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).
