No quantitative literature examined shame in relation to infant feeding outcomes, warranting future research. The framework synthesis generated four distinct themes which explored guilt and/or shame in relation to infant feeding outcomes 'underprepared and ineffectively supported', 'morality and perceived judgement' (breastfeeding), 'frustration with infant feeding care' and 'failures, fears and forbidden practice' (formula feeding). Both guilt and shame were associated with self-perception as a bad mother and poorer maternal mental health. Guilt and shame experiences were qualitatively different in terms of sources and outcomes, dependent on infant feeding method. Suggestions for tailored care to minimise guilt and shame, while supporting breastfeeding, are provided.Parkinson's disease (PD) is the most common neurodegenerative movement disorder with obscure etiology and no disease-modifying therapy to date. Hence, novel, safe, and low cost-effective approaches employing medicinal plants are currently receiving increased attention. A growing body of evidence has revealed that cinnamon, being widely used as a spice of unique flavor and aroma, may exert neuroprotective effects in several neurodegenerative diseases, including PD. In vitro evidence has indicated that the essential oils of Cinnamomum species, mainly cinnamaldehyde and sodium benzoate may protect against oxidative stress-induced cell death, reactive oxygen species generation, and autophagy dysregulation, thus acting in a potentially neuroprotective manner. In vivo evidence has demonstrated that oral administration of cinnamon powder and sodium benzoate may protect against dopaminergic cell death, striatal neurotransmitter dysregulation, and motor deficits in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine mouse models of PD. The underlying mechanisms of its action include autophagy regulation, antioxidant effects, upregulation of Parkin, DJ-1, glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor, as well as modulation of the TLR/NF-κB pathway and inhibition of the excessive proinflammatory responses. Triciribine In addition, in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that cinnamon extracts may affect the oligomerization process and aggregation of α-synuclein. Herein, we discuss recent evidence on the novel therapeutic opportunities of this phytochemical against PD, indicating additional mechanistic aspects that should be explored, and potential obstacles/limitations that need to be overcome, for its inclusion in experimental PD therapeutics.
Long non-coding RNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 8 (SNHG8) has been found correlated with cancer progression. This work was aimed to investigate the functions of SNHG8 in ovarian cancer (OC).
Expression level of SNHG8 in OC tissues and cells was analyzed using real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) method. The biological roles of SNHG8 in OC were analyzed through proliferation assay, wound healing assay, and transwell invasion assay. Furthermore, interactions of SNHG8 or S100 calcium binding protein A11 (S100A11) and microRNA-1270 (miR-1270) were explored. Moreover, the effects of SNHG8, miR-1270, and S100A11 on the overall survival of OC patients were investigated.
SNHG8 has increased expression in OC tissues and cells compared with normal counterparts, and correlated with poorer overall survival of OC patients. OC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion abilities were enhanced by SNHG8 overexpression but inhibited by its knockdown. In addition, we showed that SNHG8 regulates OC progression through targeting the miR-1270 and S100A11.
Our work indicated that SNHG8 regulates OC progression through miR-1270/S100A11 axis, which may provide novel therapeutic targets for OC.
Our work indicated that SNHG8 regulates OC progression through miR-1270/S100A11 axis, which may provide novel therapeutic targets for OC.Adverse drug reactions of traditional Chinese medicine injection mainly manifested as pseudo-allergic reactions. In the present study, ginsenoside Rd, Ro, and Rg3 were identified as pseudo-allergic components in Shengmai injection by a high-expression Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2 cell membrane chromatography coupled online with high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Their pseudo-allergic activities were evaluated by in vitro and in vivo assay. The three compounds were further found to induce pseudo-allergic reaction through Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2. Therefore, we concluded that ginsenoside Rd, Ro and Rg3 may be potential allergens that cause pseudo-allergic reactions. This study might be helpful for the safe use of Shengmai injection.Anxiety and depression are common mental illnesses among nurses fighting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, the precise factors that affect anxiety and depression in this population require further evaluation. This study aimed to explore factors associated with anxiety and depression among nurses fighting COVID-19 in China. We used convenience sampling to recruit 282 nurses fighting COVID-19 in three hospitals. Participants were questioned about demographic characteristics, daily working time, daily sleep duration, sleep quality, anxiety, depression, resilience, and coping styles. Linear regression analysis indicated that resilience (β = -0.217, P less then 0.001), positive coping style (β = -0.281, P less then 0.001), negative coping style (β = 0.395, P less then 0.001), and sleep quality (β = 0.153, P = 0.010) were predictive factors for anxiety, and the model explained 44.20% (P less then 0.001) of variability. Resilience (β = -0.239, P less then 0.001), positive coping style (β = -0.222, P less then 0.001), negative coping style (β = 0.152, P less then 0.001), and sleep quality (β = 0.104, P = 0.003) were identified as explanatory factors for depression, and the model explained 34.50% (P less then 0.001) of variability. The present study suggested that resilience, coping styles, and sleep quality could account for an individual's levels of anxiety and depression.
The preferred salvage treatment for children with relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia (R/R-AML) remains unclear. The combination of cladribine/Ara-C/granulocyte-colony stimulating factor and mitoxantrone (CLAG-M) shown promising results in adult R/R-AML. We aim to investigate the efficacy and safety of CLAG-M versus mitoxantrone/etoposide/cytarabine (MEC) or idarubicin/etoposide/cytarabine (IEC) in R/R-AML children.
Fifty-five R/R-AML children were analyzed. The overall response rate (ORR), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) at 3-year were documented. Karyotype or mutations status were summarized as different risk groups.
The ORR was achieved in 80% (16/20) and 51% (18/35) of patients after one-cycle of CLAG-M and MEC/IEC treatment (p<0.001). The CLAG-M group's OS (66.8%±16.2% vs. 40.4%±10.9%, p=0.019) and PFS (52.6%±13.7% vs. 34.9%±9.1%, p=0.036) at 3-year was significantly higher than the MEC/IEC group. In high-risk patients, 33.3% experienced progression of disease (PD) and 22.
