Buses are the most common form of public transport for older adults in developing countries. With over 37 percent of total trips, buses are the principal mode of transport in Dhaka. The majority of older adults are dependent on buses because of their affordability relative to other modes such as auto rickshaw, ride shares and taxis. This study aims to investigate key barriers in accessing buses in Dhaka and the consequences of these barriers to the everyday mobility of older adults.

Thirty participants aged ≥60 years were recruited from two socio-economically different neighbourhoods in Dhaka. We employed a thematic analysis of visual surveys and in-depth interviews to understand older adults' spatial and cultural context and their experiences using buses in their everyday lives.

Boarding and deboarding buses were common barriers for older adults due to overcrowding and traffic congestion. In addition, older adults faced challenges such as ageism, gender discrimination and undesirable behaviour by transport personnel and co-passengers. These barriers affected their independent mobility and influenced their access to work and social life, contributing to their social exclusion.

This study illustrates the challenges faced by older adults when accessing public transport and the need to improve access to work, health care, and social life. Inclusive transport policies are essential in low- and middle-income countries to improve the well-being of older adults.

Efforts to demonstrate biological bases of diseases and embrace evidence-based medicine have unwittingly contributed to the rejection of what is difficult to generalize the complexity of individuals, an area where psychoanalysis has the potential to make a major contribution.
Anti-NOR90 antibodies are usually found in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc); however, their clinical relevance remains obscure. We developed an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for measuring them to investigate the clinical features of patients with anti-NOR90 antibodies.

Serum samples from 1,252 patients with various conditions from Nagoya University Hospital and 244 patients with idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) from Tosei General Hospital were included. Anti-NOR90 antibodies were assayed by an ELISA using the recombinant protein produced by in vitro transcription/translation.

Five (0.4%) patients in the Nagoya University Hospital cohort had anti-NOR90 antibodies. One patient with diffuse cutaneous SSc, 3 with limited cutaneous SSc, and 1 with Raynaud's disease were positive for anti-NOR90 antibodies. Anti-NOR90 antibodies were found more frequently in patients with systemic scleroderma-spectrum disorders (SSDs) than without SSDs (5/316 vs. 0/936, P<0.00101) and were found more frequently in patients with SSc than without SSc (4/249 vs. 0/528, P<0.0104) in the systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases cohort. Three of the 4 anti-NOR90-positive SSc patients had interstitial lung disease (ILD), and 2 of those 4 had cancer. Three (1.2%) patients in the Tosei General Hospital cohort had anti-NOR90 antibodies. All 3 of the anti-NOR90-positive IIP patients had gastrointestinal tract involvement, and 2 of those 3 had cancer or skin lesions observed in SSc.

Although anti-NOR90 antibodies are rarely found in clinics, our ELISA is useful for their detection. Further studies are needed to confirm the association of anti-NOR90 antibodies with ILD and cancer in SSc and IIP patients.

Here, we reported the terbium ion-doped hydroxyapatite (HATb) nanoparticle as a luminescent probe to encapsulate both the near-infrared (NIR) photothermal agent polydopamine (PDA) and anticancer doxorubicin (DOX) for imaging-guided chemo-photothermal therapy. The morphology, crystal structure, fluorescence, and composition of HATb-PDA-DOX were characterized. HATb-PDA showed a high DOX loading capacity. A theranostic nanoplatform showed pH/NIR responsive release properties and better antitumor outcomes in OSCC cells than monomodal chemotherapy or photothermal therapy, while keeping side effects at a minimum. Also, the luminescence signal was confirmed to be tracked and the increase of the red/green (R/G) ratio caused by the DOX release could be used to monitor the DOX release content. Furthermore, HATb-PDA-DOX plus NIR treatment synergistically promoted in vitro cell death through the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), cell cycle arrest, and increased cell apoptosis. Overall, this work presents an innovative strategy in designing a multifunctional nano-system for imaging-guided cancer treatment.Recent studies have indicated that active peptides can induce an improvement in wound repair. Herein, we evaluated egg white peptides (EWPs) as a nutritional supplement to improve mechanical skin damage in BALB/c mice. Two symmetrical circular full-thickness wounds were created with 5 mm biopsy punches in the skin of the mouse dorsal region, and EWPs (200, and 400 mg kg-1) were administrated by gavage for 14 days. We analyzed the EWPs for their in vivo and in vitro antioxidant capability, toxicity, and microscopy of skin wounds, and there was no cytotoxicity or in vivo toxicity. During the period of wound healing, EWPs could promote healthy cell migration, increase serum superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and accelerate the wound healing process in a time- and dose-dependent manner, whereas the levels of malondialdehyde and reactive oxygen species showed the opposite trend. After administration with 400 mg kg-1 EWPs for 10 days, the wound had almost healed. Meanwhile, EWPs significantly enhanced serum amino acids, particularly enhancing the content of Arg, Glu, Pro, Met, and Lys, which could provide sufficient nutrition in the wound healing process.
