Neurally mediated syncope (NMS) is the most common type of syncope, and head up tilt test (HUTT) is, so far, the most appropriate tool to identify NMS. In this work, an effort to predict the NMS before performing the HUTT is attempted. To achieve this, the heart rate variability (HRV) at rest and during the first minutes of tilting position during HUTT was analyzed using both time and frequency domains. Various features from HRV regularity and complexity, along with wavelet higher-order spectrum (WHOS) analysis in low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) bands were examined. The experimental results from 26 patients with history of NMS have shown that at rest, a time domain entropy measure and WHOS-based features in LF band exhibit significant differences between positive and negative HUTT as well as among 10 healthy subjects and NMS patients. The best performance of multilayer perceptron neural network (MPNN) was achieved by using an input vector consisted of WHOS-based HRV features in the LF zone and systolic blood pressure from the resting period, yielding an accuracy of 89.7%, assessed by 5-fold cross-validation. The promising results presented here pave the way for an early prediction of the HUTT outcome from resting state, contributing to the identification of patients at higher risk NMS. However, methods for measuring the effects of staged AP on cerebral hemodynamic reserve have not been established. Here, we evaluated whether indocyanine green kinetics and near-infrared spectroscopy (ICG-NIRS) with hypocapnia induced by hyperventilation can detect the effects of staged AP on hemodynamic reserve to prevent CHS after CAS. Participants comprised 44 patients at high risk of CHS, whose ipsilateral cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) was impaired on preoperative single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Patients were divided into a staged AP group (n=13) and a regular CAS group (n=31). In the staged AP group, stenting was performed 3 weeks after staged AP. In the regular CAS group, 16 cases (52%) showed HPP, and five (16%) presented with CHS after CAS, while no HPP or CHS occurred in the staged AP group (p=0.001). Changes in blood flow index (BFI) and time to peak (TTP) ratio during hypocapnia calculated from ICG-NIRS indicated a significant linear relationship with preprocedural CVR on SPECT (r=-0.710, 0.632, respectively; p less then 0.0001 each). BFI and TTP ratios during hypocapnia were significantly improved after staged AP (p less then 0.001 each). Furthermore, significant linear correlations were observed between BFI and TTP ratio during hypocapnia and postoperative asymmetry index AI (r=0.405, -0.475, respectively; p less then 0.01 each). The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of a fully blinded, randomized controlled trial (RCT) to assess the safety, tolerability and initial efficacy of the oral orthotic in youth with chronic tics. Thirteen youth were randomly assigned to wear an active or sham orthotic in a two week double-blind RCT, with a 4-6 week unblinded follow up period. A statistically significant difference was found for change in tic severity between participants wearing the active and sham orthotic. However, this difference was not replicated during the follow up period. A network of dynamic protein complexes within a cell that regulates most biological processes is known as a protein-protein interaction network (PPIN). Complex prediction from PPINs is a challenging task. Most of the previous computation approaches mine cliques, stars, linear and hybrid structures as complexes from PPINs by considering topological features and fewer of them focus on important biological information contained within protein amino acid sequence. In this study, we have computed a wide variety of topological features and integrate them with biological features computed from protein amino acid sequence such as bag of words, physicochemical and spectral domain features. We propose a new Sequential Forward Feature Selection (SFFS) algorithm, i.e., random forest-based Boruta feature selection for selecting the best features from computed large feature set. Decision tree, linear discriminant analysis and gradient boosting classifiers are used as learners. We have conducted experiments by considering two reference protein complex datasets of yeast, i.e., CYC2008 and MIPS. Human and mouse complex information is taken from CORUM 3.0 dataset. Protein interaction information is extracted from the database of interacting proteins (DIP). Our proposed SFFS, i.e., random forest-based Brouta feature selection in combination with decision trees, linear discriminant analysis and Gradient Boosting Classifiers outperforms other state of art algorithms by achieving precision, recall and F-measure rates, i.e. 94.58%, 94.92% and 94.45% for MIPS, 96.31%, 93.55% and 96.02% for CYC2008, 98.84%, 98.00%, 98.87 % for CORUM humans and 96.60%, 96.70%, 96.32% for CORUM mouse dataset complexes, respectively.
