Surgical resection for pulmonary metastases from colorectal cancer could provide long-term survival in selected patients, and it is commonly performed in practice. However, surgical margin relapse sometimes occurs and is a problematic issue to resolve. Spread through air spaces (STAS) is one of the invasion forms in primary lung cancer and is associated with local recurrence and a poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of STAS for pulmonary metastases from colorectal cancer and to assess the predictability of STAS with preoperative clinical information.

A total of 96 pulmonary metastatic lesions from colorectal cancer in 37 patients who underwent metastasectomy at our institution from January 2008 to December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed.

STAS was identified in 41.6 % of the 96 lesions. Surgical margin relapse was found in 8 lesions (8.3 %) from 7 patients (18.9 %). The distance of STAS was identified as an independent risk factor for surgical margin relapse on multivariable analysis (p =  0.033). The patients with STAS showed significantly worse overall survival than those without (5-year overall survival rate 30.3 % vs. 76.9 %; p =  0.002). On multivariable analysis, patients with STAS had a significantly higher risk of death than those without (p =  0.019). An elevated pre-metastasectomy serum carcinoembryonic antigen level was independently correlated with STAS on multivariable analysis (p =  0.049).

STAS was related to a poor prognosis and surgical margin relapse in pulmonary metastases from colorectal cancer.
STAS was related to a poor prognosis and surgical margin relapse in pulmonary metastases from colorectal cancer. This study evaluated the relationship between race/ethnicity and body shape concerns among adults in the U.S. and evaluated if this relationship varied by Body Mass Index (BMI) and gender. Data were collected from U.S. adults (N = 2,212) using a national online survey panel designed to approximate the US census data. Gender, age, race/ethnicity, BMI and body shape concerns (Body Shape Questionnaire) were assessed. Analysis of variance was utilized to evaluate the race/ethnicity and BSQ association and if the relationship varied by gender and BMI category. The sample (65 % White, 13 % Black/African American, 16 % Latino/Hispanic/Mexican American and 6 % Asian/Pacific Islander) was 50 % female; mean age of 44.2 years (SD = 16.8); BMI of 27.4 (SD = 6.7). A gender by BMI category interaction (p  less then  .01) revealed no difference in BSQ scores by gender when BMI  less then  18, but higher BSQ scores among women for all other BMI groups. A main effect of race/ethnicity revealed BSQ scores were equally high across racial/ethnic groups, except individuals who identified as White (M = 42.0, SD = 19.7) reported higher BSQ than those identified as Asian/Pacific Islander (M = 37.4, SD = 17.4). Body shape concerns are common among US adults. Individuals of racial/ethnic minority status may experience similar gender- and BMI-related differences in body shape concerns as White individuals.Visual environment tends to be stable over the short run. An immediately visited location often doesn't provide new information and can be safely inhibited, as exemplified by inhibition of return (IOR)-attention takes longer to return to a previously cued location. Attention selection at this inhibited location has been widely characterized as inferior, in which the target at the cued location has diminished salience, with lower rate of accumulation in the priority map for attention selection. We demonstrate here that an electrophysiology index of visual selection-the N2pc component-is delayed but enhanced at the cued than uncued location, and this enhancement in the N2pc amplitude predicts reduction in the behavioral IOR effect. By isolating a pure target N2pc, these results reveal an active attention enhancement mechanism that facilitates adaptive allocation of attention when a target appears at a previously cued location, potentially acting as a compensation mechanism for inhibition.Thrombocytopenia 2 (THC2) is a major type of inherited thrombocytopenia caused by the persistent ANKRD26 expression during the late stage of megakaryocytopoiesis. For the first time, we generated a human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) line SHAMUi001-A from the bone marrow hematopoietic progenitor cells of a THC2 patient, who has a heterozygous mutation (c.-128G>T) in the 5'-UTR of ANKRD26 gene. SHAMUi001-A cells retain the mutation, display pluripotent stem cell characteristics, and have a normal female karyotype. #link# This disease-specific hiPSC line will be a useful model for THC2 research. We describe the generation and characterization of two human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSCs) lines reprogrammed from myoblasts and from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from the same donor. The donor was free of neuromuscular disorders, male and 18 years of age. For reprogramming we used Sendai-virus delivery of the four Yamanaka factors. The pluripotent identity of the hiPSC lines was confirmed by the expression of pluripotency markers and their capacity to differentiate into all three germ layers. These hiPSCs constitute a tool to study tissue of origin specific differences in the identity of hiPSCs.
To assess the efficacy of selective salpingography (SSG) with additional tubal catheterization (TC) among infertile patients diagnosed with PTO and analysis of reproductive outcome.

Of a total of 399 tubes with confirmed proximal tubal occlusion, 383 successfully restored their patency resulting in 96 % technical success rate. Thirty-five percent of oviducts that had their patency restored was treated with SSG and 65% required additional TC. Reproductive outcomes at minimum 12 months following the treatment were collected by a telephone survey. 21/221 women were lost to follow up. Out of remaining 200 patients with at least one patent tube, 80 patients conceived which resulted in 40 % overall pregnancy rate.

Selective salpingography and tubal canalization offer patient-friendly, minimally invasive and cost-effective alternatives to tubal microsurgery and IVF-ET in women with tubal occlusion with very high technical success rate and promising clinical results which depend also on the complexity of couple infertility.
