Current plasmonic photocatalysts are mainly based on noble metal nanoparticles and rarely work in the infrared (IR) light range. Herein, cost-effective Bi2 O3-x with oxygen vacancies was formed in situ on commercial bismuth powder by calcination at 453.15 K in atmosphere. Interestingly, defects introduced into Bi2 O3-x simultaneously induced a localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in the wavelength range of 600-1400 nm and enhanced the adsorption for CO2 molecules, which enabled efficient photocatalysis of CO2 -to-CO (ca. 100 % selectivity) even under low-intensity near-IR light irradiation. Significantly, the apparent quantum yield for CO evolution at 940 nm reached 0.113 %, which is approximately 4 times that found at 450 nm. We also showed that the unique LSPR allows for the realization of a nearly linear dependence of photocatalytic CO production rate on light intensity and operating temperature. Finally, based on an IR spectroscopy study, an oxygen-vacancy induced Mars-van Krevlen mechanism was proposed to understand the CO2 reduction reactions.

In this multiple case study, the present authors collected and qualitatively analysed data (organizational documents, meetings records and focus group reports) on organizational changes made in two specialized Dutch disability service organizations, using ecological theory as a sensitizing framework and the constant comparative method.

Themes describing organizational changes in this context were as follows a messy start to the transition; staff, professionals and managers remain at a distance; staff members' ability to change; clear boundaries between formal and informal caregivers; and staff's feelings of being unheard.

Crohn's disease (CD) requires a multidisciplinary approach and surgery should be undertaken by dedicated colorectal surgeons with audited outcomes. We present a national, multicentre study, with the aim to collect benchmark data on key performance indicators in CD surgery, to highlight areas where standards of CD surgery excel and to facilitate targeted quality improvement where indicated.

All patients undergoing ileocaecal or redo ileocolic resection in the participating centres for primary and recurrent CD from June 2018 to May 2019 were included. The main objective was to collect national data on hospital volume and practice variations. Postoperative morbidity was the primary outcome. Laparoscopic surgery and stoma rate were the secondary outcomes.

In all, 715 patients were included 457 primary CD and 258 recurrent CD with a postoperative morbidity of 21.6% and 34.7%, respectively. Laparoscopy was used in 83.8% of primary CD compared to 31% of recurrent CD. Twenty-five hospitals participated and the total number of patients per hospital ranged from 2 to 169. Hospitals performing more than 10 primary CD procedures per year showed a higher adoption of laparoscopy and bowel sparing surgery.

The number of patients with fatty liver disease (FLD) is increasing globally. Ethanol consumption in FLD is known to be associated with an increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the effects of alcohol consumption on the occurrence of multiple HCCs remain unclear. We explored the relationship between the daily ethanol intake and the HCC number.

This single-center retrospective study enrolled 114 patients without viral or immune hepatitis undergoing first-line HCC treatment who had been diagnosed with FLD by abdominal ultrasonography or a liver biopsy at the same time as or before HCC detection. We categorized patients into four groups according to the daily alcohol consumption (<20g non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, n = 45; 20-39g low-intermediate ethanol intake with FLD, n = 13; 40-69g high-intermediate ethanol intake with FLD, n = 31; ≥70g alcoholic fatty liver disease, n = 25). The relationship between the daily ethanol consumption and the number of HCCs (single or multiple) was examined.
