Deciphering gender differences in COVID-19 offers a window into the principles of immunity against SARS-CoV-2 infection and this information on ageing dependent gender disparity might contribute to our current understanding of COVID-19 infection and disease treatment. We propose a model-based deep learning architecture for the reconstruction of highly accelerated diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that enables high resolution imaging. The proposed reconstruction jointly recovers all the diffusion weighted images in a single step from a joint k-q under-sampled acquisition in a parallel MRI setting. We propose the novel use of a pre-trained denoiser as a regularizer in a model-based reconstruction for the recovery of highly under-sampled data. Specifically, we designed the denoiser based on a general diffusion MRI tissue microstructure model for multi-compartmental modeling. By using a wide range of biologically plausible parameter values for the multi-compartmental microstructure model, we simulated diffusion signal that spans the entire microstructure parameter space. A neural network was trained in an unsupervised manner using an autoencoder to learn the diffusion MRI signal subspace. We employed the autoencoder in a model-based reconstruction and show that the autoencoder provides a strong denoising prior to recover the q-space signal. We show reconstruction results on a simulated brain dataset that shows high acceleration capabilities of the proposed method.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1155/2019/7058350.].Euryops arabicus Steud (E. arabicus) belongs to the family Asteraceae. It has several uses in folk medicine in the Arabian Peninsula. The current study aimed at evaluating the wound healing properties of the E. arabicus extract in rats. Primarily, E. arabicus successfully accelerated cell migration in vitro and it also showed no signs of dermal toxicity. Topical application of E. arabicus extract (5% or 20%) expedited healing of excised skin in rats. Histological examinations indicated that E. arabicus shortened epithelization period, stimulated fibroblast activity, and increased collagen deposition in wound tissues. The plant extract exerted antioxidant activity as evidenced by inhibition of GSH depletion and MDA accumulation and enhanced mRNA expression of Sod1 in wound tissues collected at the end of the experiment. Further, E. arabicus inhibited the rise of TNF-α and IL-1β in the skin wound region. The anti-inflammatory was confirmed by the observed down regulation of Ptgs2, Nos2, IL-6, and NF-κB mRNA expression. In addition, the extract enhanced the expression of TGF-β1 and HIF-1α in wounded skin tissues as indicated immunohistochemically. Conclusively, E. arabicus expedites excision wound healing in rats. Collagen-enhancing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties mediate the observed wound healing activity. These findings might contribute to our understanding of the ethnobotanical use of E. arabicus in wounds.Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT), which is involved in the development of various cardiovascular diseases, is induced by dyslipidemia or obesity. In dyslipidemia, the increased levels of oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL) upregulated the lectin-type oxidized LDL receptor 1 (Lox-1), which then upregulated the down signaling pathways of PKC-α/MMPs/TGF-β/SMAD2 or 3 and increased the EndMT. In this study, we investigated the effect of pyrogallol-phloroglucinol-6,6-bieckol (PPB), which is a compound of Ecklonia cava (E. cava), on decreased blood pressure (BP) by attenuating the EndMT in a high-fat diet- (HFD-) fed animal model. We also investigated PPB's attenuation effect on EndMT in oxLDL-treated mouse endothelial cells as an in vitro model. The results indicated that, in the aorta or endothelial cells of mice, the HFD or oxLDL treatment significantly increased the expression of Lox-1/PKC-α/MMP9/TGF-β/SMAD2/SMAD3. The PPB treatment significantly decreased its expression. In contrast, the HFD or oxLDL treatment significantly decreased the expression of the EC markers (PECAM-1 and vWF) while the PPB treatment significantly increased them. Moreover, the HFD or oxLDL treatment significantly increased the expression of the mesenchymal cell markers (α-SMA and vimentin) while PPB treatment significantly decreased them. PPB decreased the intima-media thickness and extracellular matrix amount of the aorta and attenuated the BP, which was increased by the HFD. In conclusion, PPB attenuated the upregulation of Lox-1/PKC-α/MMP9/TGF-β/SMAD2 and 3 and restored the EndMT in HFD-fed animals. Moreover, PPB showed a restoring effect on HFD-induced hypertension.Anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity (AIC) persists as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer survivors. Although many protective strategies have been evaluated, cardiotoxicity remains an ongoing threat. The mechanisms of AIC remain unclear; however, several pathways have been proposed, suggesting a multifactorial origin. When the central role of topoisomerase 2β in the pathophysiology of AIC was described some years ago, the classical reactive oxygen species (ROS) hypothesis shifted to a secondary position. However, new insights have reemphasized the importance of the role of oxidative stress-mediated signaling as a common pathway and a critical modulator of the different mechanisms involved in AIC. A better understanding of the mechanisms of cardiotoxicity is crucial for the development of treatment strategies. It has been suggested that the available therapeutic interventions for AIC could act on the modulation of oxidative balance, leading to a reduction in oxidative stress injury. These indirect antioxidant effects make them an option for the primary prevention of AIC. In this review, our objective is to provide an update of the accumulated knowledge on the role of oxidative stress in AIC and the modulation of the redox balance by potential preventive strategies.Doxorubicin (DOX) could trigger congestive heart failure, which largely limited the clinical use of DOX. microRNAs (miRNAs) were closely involved in the pathogenesis of DOX-induced cardiomyopathy. Here, we aimed to investigate the effect of miR-152 on DOX-induced cardiotoxicity in mice. To study this, we used an adeno-associated viral vector to overexpress miR-152 in mice 6 weeks before DOX treatment, using a dose mimicking the concentrations used in the clinics. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/nlg919.html In response to DOX injection, miR-152 was significantly decreased in murine hearts and cardiomyocytes. After DOX treatment, mice with miR-152 overexpression in the hearts developed less cardiac dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammation, and myocardial apoptosis. Furthermore, we found that miR-152 overexpression attenuated DOX-related oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell loss in cardiomyocytes, whereas miR-152 knockdown resulted in oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell loss in cardiomyocytes. Mechanistically, this effect of miR-152 was dependent on the activation of nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) in response to DOX.
