A more sophisticated analysis of the theory of evolution concentrates on the ability of it to explain the evolution adaptive characteristics. These are referred to as adaptive alleles and are defined as those that enhance the chances of reproduction in the face of competing alleles. The theory of adaptive alleles is based on the assumption that natural selection can create these alleles by combining three elements:

Another issue is to ensure that the genetic modification desired spreads throughout all cells in an organism. This is a major obstacle because each cell type within an organism is unique. For instance, the cells that form the organs of a person are very different from those which make up the reproductive tissues. To make a difference, you need to target all the cells.

These issues have prompted some to question the ethics of DNA technology. Some people believe that playing with DNA crosses a moral line and is akin to playing God. Some people are concerned that Genetic Modification could have unintended effects that could harm the environment or the well-being of humans.

Adaptation

Adaptation happens when an organism's genetic traits are modified to adapt to the environment. These changes usually result from natural selection over a long period of time but they may also be due to random mutations which make certain genes more prevalent in a group of. Adaptations are beneficial for individuals or species and may help it thrive in its surroundings. Examples of adaptations include finch-shaped beaks in the Galapagos Islands and polar bears with their thick fur. In certain cases, two species may develop into dependent on each other in order to survive. The biologists of this group, called the Modern Synthesis, produced an evolution model that was taught to millions of students during the 1940s & 1950s.
