Small bowel intussusception is a rare complication after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, with few cases reported, and none in the immediate post-operative period of an abdominoplasty. We report the case of a 42-year-old woman, with an history of a laparoscopic Rouxen-Y gastric bypass, who developed small bowel occlusion secondary to a retrograde jejunojejunal intussusception in the second post-operative day of an abdominoplasty. This is the first report of a small bowel intussusception after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in the post-operative period of an abdominoplasty. Doubts remain about the possible causal effect abdominoplasty might have in small bowel intussusception after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
Although laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an increasingly performed technique in the outpatient setting, it is not done in some Units due to lack of overnight stay. The objectives of this study are to identify the differences between patients with discharge at the end of the day versus overnight stay and the factors predicting overnight stay.
A retrospective analysis of the pre, peri and postoperative data of patients operated between January/2014 and December/2017 was performed, and a statistical analysis of the variables.
A total of 311 patients were included, 33.4% of whom stayed overnight. Of these, 81.7% were operated after 2pm. As predictors factors of overnight stay, the age (p = 0.001) was identified in the morning group, with a greater possibility of overnight stay (15.3%) from 61.50 years (Younden index = 0.396) and the surgery start time (p < 0.0001) in the afternoon group, with a greater possibility of overnight stay (77.1%) from 430 pm (Younden index = 0.492).
Most patients stayed overnight due to the time at which recovery was completed, since no cause was identified (84.7%). If our unit would not have an overnight stay we would have an overall hospitalization rate of 8.4%, which corresponds to patients with an identified cause for overnight stay, and to admitted patients.
Ambulatory cholecystectomy can be performed in units that cannot cater for an overnight stay, provided that surgeries are performed during the morning period, patients are carefully selected and there is the possibility of admission.

The National Health Assessment System is a system designed by the Portuguese Health Regulatory Entity in order to evaluate the overall quality of the health care institutions. One of the key areas evaluated by the National Health Assessment System is ambulatory surgery. The aim of this study is to demonstrate that the introduction of the National Health Assessment System evaluationat our ambulatory centre not only improved the overall quality of ambulatory surgery but also the quality of the clinical record entries.
A retrospective analysis was performed from the hospital's clinical database. The study was carried out at the ambulatory centre of the Hospital and University Centre of Porto, and included 100 consecutive surgical procedures, across all surgical specialties, previously selected by the National Health Assessment System audit performed in 2015 in our ambulatory surgery centre and other 46 surgical procedures performed in 2008 at our hospital, before the National Health Assessment System was implemented. The main outcome measure was the validation and record of the seven indicators of National Health Assessment System for ambulatory surgery.
We have seen an improvement in all indicators after the National Health Assessment System implementation, except for criterion 4.
Our study demonstrates that the introduction of the National Health Assessment System in our ambulatory centre resulted in the improvement in the quality of both of clinical practice, and clinical record keepingConclusion We can conclude that the application of evaluation of quality indicators and benchmarking practices can be used to enhance healthcare outcomes.

A total of 190 isolates were analyzed and 42.3, 43.9 and 23.6% of them were positive for blaZ gene in buffalo, goat and sheep, respectively. Regarding the animal groups, in goats, amoxicillin was the antimicrobial with highest resistance index (72.7%), followed by penicillin G in buffaloes (51.9%) and ampicillin in sheep (43.1%). With regard to multiple antimicrobial resistance, 30.8% of NAS isolates from buffalo milk samples, 25.8% from goats and 25.0% from sheep presented multidrug-resistance. In the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) technique, amoxicillin MIC50 and MIC90 were 64 and 128 μg/ml, respectively, among isolates of the three animal species. In conclusion, high rates of resistance to beta-lactams are presented among NAS isolated from mastitis cases in buffaloes, goats and sheep in Northeast region of Brazil. Ac-FLTD-CMK concentration These results provide an alert to animal and human health researchers, suggesting that the frequency of NAS needs to be reduced because they carry resistance genes which might increase the existing levels of antimicrobial resistance.
To describe and analyse the sociodemographic, anthropometric, behavioural and dietary characteristics of different types of Swiss (no-)meat eaters.
No-, low-, medium- and high-meat eaters were compared with respect to energy and total protein intake and sociodemographic, anthropometric and behavioural characteristics.
National Nutrition Survey menuCH, the first representative survey in Switzerland.
2057 participants, aged 18-75 years old, who completed two 24-h dietary recalls (24-HDR) and a questionnaire on dietary habits, sociodemographic and lifestyle factors. Body weight and height were measured by trained interviewers. No-meat eaters were participants who reported meat avoidance in the questionnaire and did not report any meat consumption in the 24-HDR. Remaining study participants were assigned to the group of low-, medium- or high-meat eaters based on energy contributions of total meat intake to total energy intake (meatenergy ratio). Fifteen percentage of the participants were assigned to the low- and high-meat eating groups, and the remaining to the medium-meat eating group.
