To investigate the effect of subendometrial vasopressin injection in patients with abnormally invasive placenta (AIP), who underwent cesarean section and hysterectomy.
This randomized double-blinded clinical trial was conducted on pregnant women diagnosed with AIP grade 4 and 5 by ultrasonography during cesarean section. Women were randomly divided into two equal groups including group 1 (vasopressin) and group 2 (control) who underwent 20units of vasopressin and 20cc normal saline injection, respectively. Vasopressin and placebo were injected subendometrially 1cm medial to the uterine vessels into the lower uterine segment. The exclusion criteria include presence of myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pelvic malignancy. selleck chemicals The outcome of the study was total quantitative blood loss during the cesarean section. We estimated blood loss by measuring the blood volume in one of the suction bottles with addition for weight changes of mops, pads, and soaked linen savers.
Sixty patients were recruited into the study, 30 as the vasopressin group and 30 as the controls; with no excluded case. The amount of bleeding in the vasopressin group was significantly lower compared with that in the control group (P<0.001). In the vasopressin group, 83.4% of patients had bleeding of less than 1.5L, while only 3.3% of the control women had bleeding of less than 1.5L (relative risk=5). In addition, the number of injected packed cells was lower in the vasopressin group (P<0.001).
It was shown that vasopressin injection can help prevent excess hemorrhage and the subsequent risks of anemia or blood transfusions during abdominal hysterectomy in women with AIP.

Here, we aim at uncovering the ecological conditions and genetic architecture enabling the puzzling evolution of disassortative mating based on adaptive traits. This rare form of mate choice is observed for some polymorphic traits but theoretical predictions on the emergence and persistence of this behavior are largely lacking. Thus, we developed a mathematical model to specifically understand the evolution of disassortative mating based on mimetic color pattern in the polymorphic butterfly Heliconius numata. We confirm that heterozygote advantage favors the evolution of disassortative mating and show that disassortative mating is more likely to emerge if at least one allele at the trait locus is free from any recessive deleterious mutations. We modeled different possible genetic architectures underlying mate choice behavior, such as self-referencing alleles, or specific preference or rejection alleles. Our results showed that self-referencing or rejection alleles linked to the color pattern locus enable the emergence of disassortative mating. However, rejection alleles allow the emergence of disassortative mating only when the color pattern and preference loci are tightly linked. The measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak have no precedent in the recent history of many countries. Around 2,000 million people in the world are in isolation or quarantine, and gatherings of people have been expressly banned in many countries. In Spain, this prohibition affects workplaces, schools, and the national health system, where most of the healthcare is being provided either on the phone or online.Chronic feeling of emptiness (CFE) is con- sidered a diagnostic criteria in current psychiatric classifica- tions. However, no rating scale is still available for this phe- nomenological concept, which affects diagnostic reliability and the homogeneous use of the concept among clinicians. The aim of this study is to investigate the dimensional com- ponents of CFE and elaborate a specific questionnaire.Schizophrenia spectrum disorders present emotional, cognitive and/or behavioural alterations relat- ed to daily functioning. Therefore, it is necessary to develop intervention programs focused on the improvement of these constructs. The aim of this work is to analyse the effect of the intervention program “Trisquel” on cognitive functioning, symptomatologic perception and psychosocial functioning.he aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of an intensive four-week structured group re- laxation-training program (sophrology’s dynamic relaxation) on anxiety and depression symptoms in primary care patients with moderate and high anxiety levels.Family interventions occupy a leading po- sition for eating disorders (EDs) among psychological treat- ments. However, the unavailability of family measures spe- cifically validated in such disorders in Spanish population has been documented, to evaluate family dynamics and design appropriate interventions. This study aims to validate the clinical application of the Cuestionario de Evaluación de las Relaciones Familiares Básicas (CERFB; in English, Basic Family Relations Assessment Questionnaire) in EDs.
Liraglutide has several non-glycemic effects, including those on plasma lipids and lipoproteins, contributing to its cardiovascular benefit; however, the exact underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We investigated a novel anti-atherogenic effect of liraglutide in a real-world prospective study on patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).
Sixty-two patients with T2DM (31 men, 31 women; mean age ± standard deviation 61 ± 9years) naïve to incretin-based therapies were treated with liraglutide (1.2mg/day) as add-on therapy to metformin (1500-3000mg/day) for 4months. Laboratory analyses included the assessment of lipoprotein subclass profile by gel electrophoresis (Lipoprint; Quantimetrix Corp., Redondo Beach, CA, USA). Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) was assessed by Doppler ultrasonography. Statistical analyses included the paired t test, Spearman correlation and multiple regression analysis.
The addition of liraglutide to metformin monotherapy resulted in significant reductions in fasting glycemia, hemoglobin A1c, body mass index, waist circumference, total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, as well as in cIMT.
