Speckle tracking technology has been applied to assess ventricular deformation throughout the cardiac cycle. An electronic four dimensional probe that allows rapid acquisition of electronic spatio-temporal image correlation volumes (eSTIC) has been recently introduced.
The aim of our study was to investigate whether e-STIC acquisition improves deformation analyses reproducibility.
We recruited fetuses between 20 and 40 weeks of gestation. We obtained a 2D video clip and an e-STIC volume of a four-chamber view. We focused on left ventricular global strain (LV-GS) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LV-FE). Intraobserver, interobserver and intermethod agreement were assessed by means of intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and illustrated by Bland-Altman plots. Systematic differences between measurements were assessed using a paired t-test.
The mean difference between LV-GS values obtained with e-STIC and 2D analysis was -0.10 (95% CI -2.28, 2.08). No systematic differences were found between the two techniques for LV-GS values (
-value = .927). The mean difference between LV-FE values obtained with e-STIC and 2D analysis was 7.55 (95% CI 4.16, 10.95;
-value <.001). The inter-rater reliability of LV-GS was moderate-to-substantial for both e-STIC and 2D. The inter-rater reliability of LV-FE obtained via e-STIC was superior to that obtained via 2D analysis. The intra-rater reliability of LV-GS obtained with e-STIC was superior to that obtained with 2D analysis (ICC 0.857; 95% IC 0.761-0.917). The intra-rater reliability of LV-FE obtained via e-STIC was superior to that obtained via 2D analysis (ICC 0.647; IC 0.51-0.783).
e-STIC seems to be a better technique than 2D analysis for intra-rater reliability of LV-GS. 4D acquisition might improve intrinsic limitations of speckle tracking echocardiography.

While MuSCs are the principal cells that directly contribute to the formation of the muscle fibers, their ability to do so depends on critical interactions with a vast array of nonmyogenic cells within their niche environment. Myc inhibitor Therefore, understanding the nature of communication between MuSCs and their niche is of key importance to understand how the skeletal muscle is maintained and regenerated after injury. MuSCs are rare and therefore difficult to study in vivo within the context of their niche environment. The advent of single-cell technologies, such as switching mechanism at 5' end of the RNA template (SMART) and tagmentation based technologies using hyperactive transposase, afford the unprecedented opportunity to perform whole transcriptome and epigenome studies on rare cells within their niche environment. In this review, we will delve into how single-cell technologies can be applied to the study of MuSCs and muscle-resident niche cells and the impact this can have on our understanding of MuSC biology and skeletal muscle regeneration.
We aimed to evaluate the perinatal outcomes of patients who were continuously monitored by cardiotocography (CTG) during the labor and experienced cesarean operation with a diagnosis of fetal distress.
This is a retrospective study in which records of the patients, who were diagnosed of fetal distress at Umraniye Training and Research Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Istanbul, Turkey, between January 2015 and October 2020 were collated. The statistical analysis was done using the Statistical Packagefor Social Sciences version 22 software (SPSS Inc., Chicago IL, USA).
Of the 32,338 deliveries in this study period, 13,077 (40.4%) deliveries were through caesarean section. A total of 1504 (11.5%) of the 13,077 caesarean sections were due to fetal distress within the study period. A total of 1301 (86.5%) babies were born with ≥7 Apgar score at the1st min of delivery. NICU admission rate was 11.2% and perinatal mortality was 0.1%. More so, in the low-risk pregnancy group, the rate of the banosis and many unnecessary cesarean operations. We believe that rate of cesarean sections will decrease to the desired levels with the routine use of a method such as CTG which is easy to apply, but more sensitive and specific in the diagnosis of fetal distress.Lasianthera africana P. Beauv. (Icacinaceae) is a good source of natural antioxidants, having the potential to protect against oxidative stress-related diseases and complications. This study investigated the antioxidant, hepatoprotective and curative effects of flavonoid-rich fraction of L. africana leaves (LAFRF) against carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats. Phytochemical, nutrient content, and in vitro antioxidant activity of LAFRF were determined by standard methods. Fifty Wistar rats were randomized into 10 groups (n = 5). Groups 1 and 2 served as normal and CCl4 controls, respectively. Groups 3A-6A constituted the protective study while groups 3B-6B represented the curative study. The effects of LAFRF at 3, 10, and 30 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) on lipid peroxidation, antioxidant status, liver enzymes activities, and histology of CCl4-intoxicated rats were assessed. LAFRF total flavonoids (281.05 ± 7.44 mg QE/g), indicated LD50 above 5000 mg/kg b.w., and scavenged ABTS*+ with an IC50 of 5.05 ± 0.00 µg/mL relative to butylated hydroxytoluene (4.16 ± 0.00 µg/mL), and a concentration-dependent increase in total antioxidant capacity. Carbon tetrachloride (1 mL/kg) triggered significant (p less then 0.05) increases in malonedialdehyde concentration (2.67 ± 0.21 mg/mL), with a corresponding decline in antioxidant status, and increases in alkaline phosphatase, alanine and aspartate aminotransferase activities (68.00 ± 9.59 IU/L, 79.60 ± 5.03 IU/L and 81.80 ± 3.96 IU/L), respectively. LAFRF significantly (p less then 0.05) lowered lipid peroxidation levels, liver enzyme activities, increased antioxidant status, and improved hepatic histo-architecture of pre- and post LAFRF-treated rats. This demonstrates its high antioxidative, hepatoprotective and curative effects, indicating its potential for future drug development.
