No significant statistical difference in any of the examined variables was found between the two groups of children. In the groups of parents, current emotional state of children with JIA-U was assessed to be significantly worse (t = 2.05, p less then 0.05) and the overall level of functioning significantly lower (t = 2.03, p less then 0.05) than children without uveitis. Our results suggest the need for adding the uveitis-specific questionnaires items to JAMAR to improve its sensitivity and specificity in the assessment of QoL in children suffering from JIA-U, as well as designing a second assessment tool such as uveitis-specific questionnaires.The aim was to study the different strategies used to implement cardiovascular risk evaluation and management for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in daily clinical practice. A questionnaire survey was performed among both the members of the international Trans-Atlantic Cardiovascular Risk Consortium for Rheumatoid Arthritis (ATACC-RA) as well as the Survey of cardiovascular disease risk factors (CVD-RF) in patients with RA (SURF-RA) group. The questionnaire included 18 questions with the overarching topics (1) organization and responsibility of cardiovascular risk management (CVRM); (2) screening of CVD-RFs; (3) overview current CVRM status; and (4) availability of data regarding CVRM. VVD-214 Based on the answers, two researchers (JW, PR) independently categorized the different strategies. Thirteen out of 27 rheumatology centers responded to the questionnaire. One rheumatology center did not have organized CVRM for their RA patients. Among the other centers, three strategies to organize CVRM in daily practice were distinguished (1) the rheumatologist performs CVRM during outpatient visits (n = 6); (2) cardiologists and rheumatologists co-operate in a cardio-rheuma-clinic/team with different tasks and responsibilities (n = 3); and (3) the general practitioner screens and intervenes on CVD-RFs (n = 3). Each CVRM strategy was based on agreements between medical professionals and was also dependent on the national healthcare system and available financial resources. Three strategies were identified for CVRM implementation in daily clinical practice based on who is primarily responsible for performing CVRM. More research is warranted to compare their relative merits and effectiveness in relation to CVRM.Since the Syrian civil war in 2011, an estimated number of 3.6 million Syrian refugees crossed into Turkey, and almost half of them were children. The distribution of rheumatic diseases in Syrian refugee children is not known. The aim of this study was to describe the profile of rheumatic diseases in Syrian refugee children living in Turkey. The demographic data, clinical and laboratory findings, medications, complications and outcome results of Syrian refugee children who had visited Pediatric Rheumatology Departments of University of Health Science Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Research and Training Hospital, Ümraniye Research and Training Hospital, Şanlıurfa Research and Training Hospital, and Cengiz Gökçek Maternity and Gynecology Hospital between April 1, 2011, and September 1, 2019, were evaluated retrospectively. A total of 151 patients were included in the study. Among them, 51 patients had juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), 49 had familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), 43 had vasculitis, and 8 had connective tissue diseases. Homozygous M694V mutation was the most common mutation among FMF patients. Oligoarticular JIA (41.2%) was the most frequent type of JIA, and enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA) (27.5%) was the second one. The frequency of systemic JIA was 11.8%. One patient with SLE died due to complicated meningitis. This is the first study evaluating the distribution of rheumatic diseases in Syrian refugee children. Clinical follow-up of rheumatologic diseases is difficult in Syrian refugees due to language barriers, social and cultural differences. Health care systems should be well organized to provide appropriate care to asylum seekers.PURPOSE In obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), hypoxia secondary to apnea and hypopnea and the resulting systemic inflammatory response are the main causes of comorbidities. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between OSA and vimentin, which plays an important role in the activation of cells that synthesize inflammatory cytokines. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 150 OSA patients (50 mild, 50 moderate, and 50 severe OSA) and 50 patients without OSA as a control group. Plasma vimentin levels were measured from peripheral blood samples using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. RESULTS The OSA patients in our study had significantly higher body mass index, apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), triglyceride level, mean oxygen desaturation, and plasma vimentin levels compared to the healthy control group (p = 0.007, 0.001, 0004, 0.001, and 0.001, respectively). Plasma vimentin level was significantly higher in the moderate and severe OSA groups compared to the control and mild OSA groups (p = 0.001 for all). There was no difference between severe and moderate OSA. There were significant correlations between plasma vimentin levels and OSA patients' AHI and mean oxygen desaturation (r = 0.46, p = 0.001; r = 0.214, p = 0.005). CONCLUSION In this study, we observed significant positive correlations between plasma vimentin level and OSA severity, weight, AHI, and mean oxygen desaturation. Vimentin may have utility as a biomarker in the follow-up and treatment of OSA.The relative abundance and diversity of lactobacilli present in feces of infants fed with breastmilk and fructooligosaccharide-galactooligosaccharide (FOS-GOS)-, and inulin-galactooligosaccharide (inulin-GOS)-supplemented infant formulae and combination of both were compared. Fecal lactobacilli rapidly colonized and reached maximum total cell counts, which were significantly higher in the infants fed by combining breastmilk with a formula containing either FOS-GOS (C1-A infant) or inulin-GOS (C2-C infant) and the exclusively formula fed ones (F1-F and F2-H infants) than those detected in the exclusively breast-fed (B1-D and B2-E infants) (P less then 0.05). The greatest relative abundance of fecal lactobacilli species was observed in all infant receiving prebiotic-containing diets, whereas bifidobacteria appeared predominantly in exclusively breast-fed infants. The species composition of lactobacilli was highly unique among individual and more variable in both groups of infants receiving breastmilk than the exclusively formula-fed infants.
