This study provides reference on constructing amorphous structures for future microwave absorber researches and the as-prepared a-TiO2/rGO composites also have great potential owing to its facile synthesis and highly efficient microwave absorption.Although the first coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) wave has peaked with the second wave underway, the world is still struggling to manage potential systemic risks and unpredictability of the pandemic. A particular challenge is the "superspreading" of the virus, which starts abruptly, is difficult to predict, and can quickly escalate into medical and socio-economic emergencies that contribute to long-lasting crises challenging our current ways of life. In these uncertain times, organizations and societies worldwide are faced with the need to develop appropriate strategies and intervention portfolios that require fast understanding of the complex interdependencies in our world and rapid, flexible action to contain the spread of the virus as quickly as possible, thus preventing further disastrous consequences of the pandemic. We integrate perspectives from systems sciences, epidemiology, biology, social networks, and organizational research in the context of the superspreading phenomenon to understand the complex system of COVID-19 pandemic and develop suggestions for interventions aimed at rapid responses.Cancer cells release extracellular vesicles, which are a rich target for biomarker discovery and provide a promising mechanism for liquid biopsy. Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) is an increasingly popular technique, which has been rediscovered for the purposes of extracellular vesicle (EV) isolation and purification from diverse biofluids. A systematic review was undertaken to identify all papers that described size exclusion as their primary EV isolation method in cancer research. In all, 37 papers were identified and discussed, which showcases the breadth of applications in which EVs can be utilised, from proteomics, to RNA, and through to functionality. A range of different methods are highlighted, with Sepharose-based techniques predominating. EVs isolated using SEC are able to identify cancer cells, highlight active pathways in tumourigenesis, clinically distinguish cohorts, and remain functionally active for further experiments.Frailty is defined as a state of increased vulnerability to stressors, and it predicts disability and mortality in the older population. This study aimed to investigate the standardized prevalence and multidimensional risk factors associated with frailty among Korean community-dwelling older adults. We analyzed the baseline data of 2907 adults aged 70-84 years (mean age 75.8 ± 3.9 years, 57.8% women) in the Korean Frailty and Aging Cohort Study. The Fried frailty phenotype was used to define frailty. Analyzed data included sociodemographic, physical, physical function, biological, lifestyle, health condition, medical condition, psychological, and social domains. Data were standardized using the national standard population composition ratio based on the Korean Population and Housing Census. 5-(N-Ethyl-N-isopropyl)-Amiloride molecular weight The standardized prevalence of frailty and prefrailty was 7.9% (95% confidence interval (CI) 6.8-8.9%) and 47.0% (95% CI, 45.1-48.8%), respectively. The following 14 risk factors were significantly associated with frailty at risk of malnutrition, sarcopenia, severe mobility limitation, poor social capital, rural dwellers, depressive symptoms, poor self-perceived health, polypharmacy, elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, elevated glycosylated hemoglobin, low 25-hydroxy vitamin D level, longer Timed Up and Go, and low Short Physical Performance Battery score (p less then 0.05). Physiconutritional, psychological, sociodemographic, and medical factors are strongly associated with frailty. The rickettsioses of the "Far East" or Asia-Australia-Pacific region include but are not limited to endemic typhus, scrub typhus, and more recently, tick typhus or spotted fever. These diseases embody the diversity of rickettsial disease worldwide and allow us to interconnect the various contributions to this special issue of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease. The impact of rickettsial diseases-particularly of scrub typhus-was substantial during the wars and "police actions" of the last 80 years. However, the post-World War II arrival of effective antibiotics reduced their impact, when recognized and adequately treated (chloramphenicol and tetracyclines). Presently, however, scrub typhus appears to be emerging and spreading into regions not previously reported. Better diagnostics, or higher population mobility, change in antimicrobial policies, even global warming, have been proposed as possible culprits of this phenomenon. Further, sporadic reports of possible antibiotic resistance have received the attention of clinicians and epidemiologists, raising interest in developing and testing novel diagnostics to facilitate medical diagnosis. We present a brief history of rickettsial diseases, their relative importance within the region, focusing on the so-called "tsutsugamushi triangle", the past and present impact of these diseases within the region, and indicate how historically, these often-confused diseases were ingeniously distinguished from each another. Moreover, we will discuss the importance of DNA-sequencing efforts for Orientia tsutsugamushi, obtained from patient blood, vector chiggers, and rodent reservoirs, particularly for the dominant 56-kD type-specific antigen gene (tsa56), and whole-genome sequences, which are increasing our knowledge of the diversity of this unique agent. We explore and discuss the potential of sequencing and other effective tools to geographically trace rickettsial disease agents, and develop control strategies to better mitigate the rickettsioses.Maduramicin is a toxic ionophore antibiotic that is isolated from Streptomyces, frequently occurring in an aquatic environment. To understand the potential role of maduramicin in crayfish consumption related Haff disease, a mouse model was established in this study. Two exposure routes of maduramicin in the abdominal muscle and the hepatopancreas tissue homogenates of crayfish were given intragastrically to mice in different doses for seven days. Action changes, clinical symptoms, feed consumption, body weight, blood biochemistry, and histopathology examination of mice were observed and analyzed. In the natural exposure group, relatively low concentration of maduramicin in crayfish muscle and hepatopancreas had no obvious effects on mental state, body weight, blood biochemical indexes, or histologic appearance. However, in the artificial exposure group, with increasing concentrations, maduramicin in crayfish muscle and hepatopancreas homogenates both induced mental sluggishness and weight loss of mice. Blood biochemical examination showed that 3.
