An ordered adlayer of CoPc is prepared on Au(111). Approximately 14% of the adsorbed species appear with high contrast in CO 2 purged electrolyte environment. The ECSTM experiments indicate the proportion of high contrast species correlated with the reduction of Co II Pc (~-0.2 V). The high contrast species is ascribed to CoPc-CO 2 complex, which is further confirmed by theoretical simulation. T he sharp contrast change from CoPc-CO 2 to CoPc is revealed by in situ ECSTM in the reaction. Potential step experiments provide dynamic information for the initial stage of the reaction, which including the reduction of CoPc and the binding of CO 2 , and latter is the rate-limiting step. Bearberry leaves were assayed and a forced degradation study of arbutin was performed in different conditions. Results The method complied with all required validation parameters. Contents varied from 1.19 to 4.15% (w/w) of arbutin and from 0.022 to 0.604% (w/w) of hydroquinone. Synthetic arbutin was susceptible to acid hydrolysis and oxidative degradation, forming hydroquinone as the main degradation product. The same study using bearberry leaves showed that constituents of the plant matrix may act as antioxidants, reducing the oxidative degradation of arbutin, however acid hydrolysis of arbutin occurred in higher intensity. Conclusion Analysis of bearberry leaves evidenced high variation in arbutin and hydroquinone levels, demonstrating the need for standardisation and control. The stability profiles of synthetic arbutin and the arbutin in bearberry leaves were considerably different and the results may be useful for determining the most appropriate conditions for extraction and production of bearberry-based formulations.Both coral-associated bacteria and endosymbiotic algae (Symbiodiniaceae spp.) are vitally important for the biological function of corals. Yet little is known about their co-occurrence within corals, how their diversity varies across coral species, or how they are impacted by anthropogenic disturbances. Here, we sampled coral colonies (n = 472) from seven species, encompassing a range of life history traits, across a gradient of chronic human disturbance (n = 11 sites on Kiritimati [Christmas] atoll) in the central equatorial Pacific, and quantified the sequence assemblages and community structure of their associated Symbiodiniaceae and bacterial communities. Although Symbiodiniaceae alpha diversity did not vary with chronic human disturbance, disturbance was consistently associated with higher bacterial Shannon diversity and richness, with bacterial richness by sample almost doubling from sites with low to very high disturbance. Chronic disturbance was also associated with altered microbial beta diversity for Symbiodiniaceae and bacteria, including changes in community structure for both and increased variation (dispersion) of the Symbiodiniaceae communities. We also found concordance between Symbiodiniaceae and bacterial community structure, when all corals were considered together, and individually for two massive species, Hydnophora microconos and Porites lobata, implying that symbionts and bacteria respond similarly to human disturbance in these species. Finally, we found that the dominant Symbiodiniaceae ancestral lineage in a coral colony was associated with differential abundances of several distinct bacterial taxa. These results suggest that increased beta diversity of Symbiodiniaceae and bacterial communities may be a reliable indicator of stress in the coral microbiome, and that there may be concordant responses to chronic disturbance between these communities at the whole-ecosystem scale.Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) infection, is currently spreading worldwide, causing the worst pandemic experienced this century. We read with interest the recent article by Amatore et al. describing a COVID‐19 case who presented with a febrile rash consisting of annular, polycyclic, and circinate erythema, presumably specific to COVID‐19.Background Hepatorenal syndrome and acute kidney injury are common complications of decompensated cirrhosis, and terlipressin is recommended as first-line vasoconstrictor therapy. However, data on its use outside of clinical trials are lacking. Aims To assess practice patterns and outcomes around vasoconstrictor use for hepatorenal syndrome in UK hospitals. Methods This was a multicentre chart review study. Data were extracted from medical records of patients diagnosed with hepatorenal syndrome and treated by vasoconstrictor drugs between January 2013 and December 2017 at 26 hospitals in the United Kingdom. The primary outcome was improvement of kidney function, defined as complete response (serum creatinine improved to ≤1.5 mg/dL), partial response (serum creatinine reduction of ≥20% but >1.5 mg/dL) and overall response (complete or partial response). Other outcomes included need for dialysis, mortality, liver transplantation and adverse events. Results Of the 225 patients included in the analysis, 203 (90%) were treated with terlipressin (median duration, 6 days; range 2-24 days).
