The cytotoxic evaluation provides structural insights into the potency and selectivity of these compounds for cancer cells.1,3-Diphenyl-2-thiourea (DPTU) and 1-phenyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-2-thiourea (PPTU) were selected as the researched subject for investigating the effect of heteroatoms on the low carbon steel corrosion inhibition ability. Results from the potentiodynamic polarization measurements (PPM) indicate that the addition of a nitrogen atom in the benzene ring increases the corrosion inhibition efficiency of PPTU (97.2%), being higher than that of DPTU (93.1%) at the same condition of 2.0 × 10-4 M at 30 °C. The Nyquist diagrams show that increasing the concentrations of both DPTU and PPTU will enhance the charge-transfer resistance and reduce the double-layer capacitance. The obtained data based on PPM and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods are in accordance to the analysis based on the scanning electrochemical microscopy images. Besides, results from quantum chemical calculations prove that the heteroatoms in the inhibitor molecules are the adsorption centers, and the benzene rings increase the electrostatic interaction between the inhibitor molecules and the steel surface. Results from Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulation have clarified the adsorption mechanism of DPTU and PPTU on the steel surface. Adsorption energies confirm that PPTU displays the higher inhibition ability as compared with DPTU.Lung cancer detection includes detection of a pattern formed by multiple volatile organic compounds. An individual material has limited selectivity and hence requires tailoring to improve the selectivity and sensing properties. An electronic nose (e-nose) is a concept/device that can help in achieving selectivity and specificity for multiple volatile organic compounds at the same time by using an array of sensors. In this paper, Co and Ni doping in tin oxide was used to investigate as a sensor material for e-nose development. These were synthesized using a sol-gel method and were characterized for structural, morphological, and elemental assessment using X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which indicated the formation of the composite nanomaterial of SnO2. These synthesized materials were then used as a working electrode in the form of a screen-printed electrode to determine 1-propanol and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) sensing characteristics. Electrochemical characterization was done by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. In the case of CV studies, well-defined and distinct redox peaks are observed at different potential values indicating the changes due to the dopants. Ni doping in SnO2 shows the highest sensitivity of 2.99 μA/ppb for isopropyl alcohol and 3.11 for 1-propanol, within the detection range. Furthermore, Co-SnO2 shows selectivity for IPA, while Ni-SnO2 is selective to 1-propanol against all other volatile compounds analyzed.Metal-induced crystallization of amorphous silicon is a promising technique for developing high-quality and cheap optoelectronic devices. Many attempts tried to enhance the crystal growth of polycrystalline silicon via aluminum-induced crystallization at different annealing times and temperatures. In this research, thin films of aluminum/silicon (Al/Si) and aluminum/silicon/tin (Al/Si/Sn) layers were fabricated using the thermal evaporation technique with a designed wire tungsten boat. MIC of aSi was detected at annealing temperature of 500 °C using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The crystallinity of the films is enhanced by increasing the annealing time. In the three-layer thin films, MIC occurs because of the existence of both Al and Sn metals forming highly oriented (111) silicon. Nanocrystalline silicon with dimensions ranged from 5 to 300 nm is produced depending on the structure and time duration. Low surface reflection and the variation of the optical energy gap were detected using UV-vis spectroscopy. Higher conductivities of Al/Si/Sn films than Al/Si films were observed because of the presence of both metals. Highly rectifying ideal diode manufactured from Al/Si/Sn on the FTO layer annealed for 24 h indicates that this device has a great opportunity for the optoelectronic device applications.Traditionally, studies of post translational modifications (PTMs) by mass analysis have been limited to modifications such as deamidation and oxidation that have a mass shift. selleck Although Asp isomerization is an important PTM, the selective detection of Asp isomers by mass spectrometry was originally thought to be impossible due to the identical mass of the isomers. The recent development of an LC-MS-based method has facilitated rapid and accurate quantitative analysis of Asp isomers in long-lived proteins; however, because the quantification is based on the extracted ion chromatogram acquired by an MS1 scan, this methodology is not always efficient for detecting extremely low-abundance peptides in complex biological samples. In this paper, we evaluated Asp isomer-containing peptides of αA-crystallin present in tryptic digests of human lens samples with different degrees of protein aggregation and different ages using LC coupled with multiple reaction monitoring (MRM). In a single analysis, the LC-MRM method enabled three tryptic peptides containing isomers of Asp58, Asp91/92, and Asp151 to be detected simultaneously. The extent of isomerization and epimerization of these specific Asp sites in αA-crystallin increased with the progress of α-crystallin aggregation. For the analysis of samples known to isomerize at specific Asp residues, MRM gives a more rapid, less laborious, and high-quality separation of Asp isomer-containing peptides relative to the previous MS1-based quantitative method. The integrity of oil and gas wells is largely dependent on the cement job. Maintaining the properties of the cement layer throughout the life of a well is a difficult task, particularly in high-temperature and -pressure conditions such as those in deep wells. Cementing deep wells require slurries with high densities. Heavyweight cement systems are those designed with weighting materials. These materials have a higher specific gravity in comparison to cement. The purpose of this work is to investigate the influence of weighting materials on the properties of Class G oil-well cement and to make necessary recommendations for their use. The rheology, fluid loss, gas migration, and dynamic elastic properties of three cement slurries containing different weighting materials, namely, hematite, barite, and ilmenite, were studied. The results indicate that cement slurry designed with barite exhibits the best rheological behavior that would provide a perfect solution for deep wells where cement placement is a concern. The barite slurry had the lowest plastic viscosity.
