Sixteen monoclonal strains classified into six morphotypes typical of, or close to, intraspecific taxa of Pseudopediastum boryanum, including P. alternans (ALT), P. boryanum var. boryanum (BOR), P. boryanum var. cornutum (COR), P. boryanum var. forcipatum (FOR), P. boryanum var. longicorne (LON), and P. boryanum var. perforatum (PER), were simultaneously subjected to phylogenetic (26S rDNA and rbcL cpDNA) and morphometric analyses. Marginal cell shape, coenobium and cell size, and granule density on the cell surface were analyzed statistically. The shapes of some morphotypes (BOR, COR, FOR, and PER) were also compared to the shapes of corresponding type illustrations. Pseudopediastrum boryanum var. boryanum, without any reliable morphological and phylogenetic data, appeared to be a questionable taxon that needs a neotype. The variety longicorne proved to be a complex taxon that should be split after morphometric data of more strains and of the corresponding lectotype are included in the statistical analysis. A new species, Pseudopediastrum oblongum, was described, and four varieties were elevated to the species level, which resulted in establishing new combinations, P. cornutum, P. forcipatum, P. perforatum, and P. subgranulatum. Reference sequences for the new species and combinations were obtained. The paleoecological value of P. boryanum sensu lato appeared to be limited by the relatively low percentage of marginal cells typical of particular varieties and a high risk of their misidentification in the light microscope. The shape of marginal cells seemed to be the best diagnostic feature. Granule density could be helpful to discriminate between certain taxa.
We aimed to assess the diagnostic yield of ultrasonography in the identification of the etiology of hydramnios, and the added value of MRI or amniocentesis.

We conducted a single-center retrospective study including pregnancies with confirmed hydramnios (defined as deepest pocket ≥8 cm) between January 2013 and May 2017. Twin pregnancies, secondary hydramnios discovered after the diagnosis of a causal pathology, and pregnancies of unknown outcome were excluded. All pregnancies underwent a targeted scan, and selected cases underwent MRI or amniocentesis.

A total of 158 patients with confirmed hydramnios were included. Hydramnios was associated with a fetal pathology in 37 cases (23.4%), with diabetes in 39 (24.6%), isolated macrosomia in 16 (10.1%), and considered idiopathic in 66 (41.7%). Ultrasonography established a diagnosis of the underlying pathology in 73% of cases. Amniocentesis was done in 31 cases (20%) and it allowed diagnosis of chromosome anomalies, esophageal atresia, myotonic dystrophy congenital type, Prader-Willi syndrome, and Bartter syndrome. BIBR 1532 order MRI was done in 15 cases (10%) and it allowed one additional diagnosis of esophageal atresia. The diagnostic yields of MRI and amniocentesis were 91.7% and 95.2%, respectively. There were five false positive diagnoses at ultrasonography, and one false positive diagnosis at MRI.

The presence of photocatalytic material in indoor paints may allow photochemical reactions to occur at wavelengths of light that are present indoors. One such potential reaction is the heterogeneous photooxidation of NO to HONO. NO(g) is commonly found indoors, originating from combustion sources, ventilation and infiltration of outdoor air. We studied the interaction of NO(g) with painted surfaces illuminated with indoor fluorescent and incandescent lighting. There is a loss of NO(g) to painted surfaces in the dark at both 0 and 50% RH. At 50% RH, there is a re-release of some of that NO(g) under illumination. The same behavior is observed for illumination of different colored paints. This is in contrast to what is seen with TiO2 as the substrate, where photoenhanced uptake of NO(g) and formation of NO2 (g) are observed. We hypothesize that the loss of NO(g) is due to adsorption and diffusion into the paint. The re-release of NO under illumination is thought to be due to photooxidation of NO to HONO on the painted surface at higher relative humidities and subsequent HONO photolysis.
To compare the efficacy of letrozole and clomiphene citrate (CC) for ovulation induction in infertile women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

In this assessor blind, randomized controlled trial, 90 infertile women with PCOS were randomized to receive either letrozole or CC for ovulation induction in incremental doses for a maximum of three cycles. Main outcome measures studied were endometrial thickness, ovulation rate, pregnancy rate, rate of monofollicular development, and time to conception.

Mean endometrial thicknesses were 9.86±2.32mm and 9.39±2.06mm with letrozole and CC, respectively (P=0.751). Cumulative ovulation rates were 86.7% and 85.2% with letrozole and CC, respectively (P=0.751). Pregnancy was achieved in 42.2% of women in the letrozole group and 20.0% of women in the CC group (P=0.04). Monofollicular development was seen in 68.4% of ovulatory cycles in the letrozole group compared with 44.8% in the CC group (P=0.000). Mean time to achieve pregnancy was significantly shorter (log rank P=0.042) with letrozole (9.65weeks) than with CC (11.07weeks).

Letrozole is a better alternative for ovulation induction in anovulatory women with PCOS as pregnancy rates are higher, time to pregnancy is shorter, and chances of multiple pregnancy are less because of high monofollicular growth.
