HBZ is expressed by the complex retrovirus, Human T-cell Leukemia Virus type 1, and implicated in pathological effects associated with viral infection. From the nucleus, HBZ alters gene expression by interacting with a variety of transcriptional regulatory proteins, among which is c-Jun. Previously, one of the three HBZ variants, HBZUS, was reported to decrease c-Jun expression by promoting its degradation. Here we show that another variant, HBZS1, produces the opposite effect. In the presence of HBZS1, c-Jun expression increases due to its stabilization. Our data suggest that this effect requires the ability of HBZS1 to interact with c-Jun. We provide evidence that HBZS1 inhibits the proteosomal degradation of c-Jun initiated by the Cop1-containing ubiquitin ligase complex. HBZS1 is the most abundant variant in HTLV-1-infected T-cells, and our data indicate that levels of c-Jun expression in infected cells are consistent with effects of HBZS1.
Parents of adolescents with mental problems do not always recognize the symptoms in their children, particularly regarding depression, and therefore do not seek professional help. Adolescents themselves tend to seek help from school personnel for their emotional or social difficulties. In contrast, adolescents do report somatic complaints and parents are likely to seek help for these problems. The current study explored whether the divergence between maternal and child reports of depression symptoms is associated with child's help-seeking in school and patterns of somatic complaints.

A sample of 9th grade students (N=693; 56% girls; mean age=15.1) and their mothers representing the Muslim and Druze populations in northern Israel were interviewed simultaneously and independently. Maternal reports were classified either as underestimating, matching, or overestimating their own child self-report of three core symptoms of depression (depressed mood, anhedonia, and irritability). Adolescents reported whether they had consulted school staff and were classified into clusters based on self-reported somatic complaints.

Maternal misidentification of their child's depression symptoms was associated with increased help-seeking in school, particularly by boys if depressed mood or irritability were misidentified and particularly by girls if anhedonia was misidentified. Hierarchical cluster analysis indicated that the number and severity of somatic complaints was higher among adolescents whose depression symptoms were not identified, regardless of gender.

To analyze outcomes of nonextirpative treatments for uterine myomas compared with myomectomy.

A systematic search of the following databases from inception to January 2020 was performed Ovid Medline, Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane Controlled Register of Trials.

Two authors reviewed titles and abstracts for relevance, and full articles were obtained and evaluated for inclusion. Studies were included if they compared nonextirpative interventions for uterine myomas to myomectomy and reported at least one outcome of interest.

Of the 2010 articles identified and reviewed, 125 full text articles were reviewed, and 22 were ultimately included in the analysis. Nonextirpative treatments reviewed included uterine artery embolization (UAE; 16 studies, n = 9555 subjects), focused ultrasound (FUS; 4 studies, n = 1516), laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation (RFA; 3 studies, n = 49). UAE, FUS, and laparoscopic RFA groups were compared with patients undergoing myomectomy (n = 34872, n = 20677, n = 47 respectively). In comparison with myomectomy, UAE had similar quality of life scores, symptom severity scores, sexual function scores, ovarian function, and miscarriage rates following intervention. There was lower likelihood of conceiving after UAE and a higher rate of reintervention after UAE compared with myomectomy. FUS had similar postprocedure sexual function scores and reintervention rates compared with myomectomy. Laparoscopic RFA had similar quality of life scores, symptom severity scores, sexual function scores, reintervention rates, and pregnancy rates after the procedure compared with myomectomy.
