Here, we will summarize the current knowledge on the role of TH signalling and its crosstalk with other pathways in controlling the physiological and premature ovarian ageing and, finally, in preserving FOR. We will consider separately the reports describing the effects of circulating and local THs on the ovarian health to elucidate their role in ovarian dysfunctions.We investigate the effect of substrate etching on terahertz frequency range metamaterials using finite-element method simulations. A blue shift was found in the metamaterial resonance with increasing substrate etch depth, caused by a decrease in the effective refractive index. The relative contribution of the substrate's refractive index to the effective refractive index was obtained as a function of the etch depth, finding that the decay length of the electric field magnitude below the LC gap is larger for the etched metamaterials due to their lower effective refractive index. We suggest designs for a terahertz metamaterial liquid sensor utilizing substrate etching which shows a significant enhancement in sensitivity compared to unetched sensors using ethanol as an example analyte. The sensitivity of the liquid sensor was enhanced by up to ~ 6.7-fold, from 76.4 to 514.5 GHz/RIU, for an ethanol liquid layer with a thickness of 60 μm by the incorporation of a substrate etch depth of 30 µm. Since the region of space close to the metamaterial is the most sensitive, however, we find that for small liquid thicknesses, larger etch depths can act to decrease sensitivity, and provide quantitative estimates of this effect.Two-dimensional triangulated surface models for membranes and their three-dimensional (3D) extensions are proposed and studied to understand the strain-induced crystallization (SIC) of rubbers. It is well known that SIC is an origin of stress relaxation, which appears as a plateau in the intermediate strain region of stress-strain curves. However, this SIC is very hard to implement in models because SIC is directly connected to a solid state, which is mechanically very different from the amorphous state. In this paper, we show that the crystalline state can be quite simply implemented in the Gaussian elastic bond model, which is a straightforward extension of the Gaussian chain model for polymers, by replacing bonds with rigid bodies or eliminating bonds. We find that the results of Monte Carlo simulations for stress-strain curves are in good agreement with the reported experimental data of large strains of up to 1200%. This approach allows us to intuitively understand the stress relaxation caused by SIC.The present study investigated and compared the patterns of dietary protein intake and physical function in Brazilian and Italian older women. Seventy-five Brazilian older women were recruited in a community senior center. Ulonivirine Fifty-three age-matched Italian older women were selected from participants of the Longevity check-up (Lookup) 7+ study. In both samples, physical performance was evaluated by isometric handgrip strength (IHG) and five-time sit-to-stand (5 × STS) tests, while diet was assessed through 24-h recall. Results indicated that Brazilian women had a higher intake of plant-based protein (52.7% vs. 30.5% kcal), while Italian women consumed greater amounts of animal-derived protein (29.7% vs. 41.5% kcal). In Brazilian women, the binary logistic regression analysis indicated that body weight-adjusted protein consumption was associated with IHG adjusted by body mass index and with 5 × STS performance. In the Italian sample, the intake of isoleucine, leucine, and valine was significantly associated with 5 × STS performance. Our findings indicate that Brazilian and Italian community-dwelling older women show different patterns of protein intake, with higher consumption of plant-based protein in the Brazilian sample and higher ingestion of animal-derived protein in the Italian subgroup. These dietary patterns may differentially impact the relationship between physical function and protein intake observed in Brazilian and Italian older women.Recent advances in lithography technology and the spread of 3D printers allow us a facile fabrication of special materials with complicated microstructures. The materials are called "designed materials" or "architectured materials" and provide new opportunities for material development. These materials, which owing to their rationally designed architectures exhibit unusual properties at the micro- and nano-scales, are being widely exploited in the development of modern materials with customized and improved performance. Meta-materials are found to possess superior and unusual properties as regards static modulus (axial stress divided by axial strain), density, energy absorption, smart functionality, and negative Poisson's ratio (NPR). However, in spite of recent developments, it has only been feasible to fabricate a few such meta-materials and to implement them in practical applications. Against such a backdrop, a broad review of the wide range of cellular auxetic structures for mechanical metamaterials available at our disposal and their potential application areas is important.
