This article provides an African American-Native American analyst-in-training's first-hand reflections on Jung's firm depiction of Blacks of African descent and America's First Nations People (the Red man) as inferior, through a theory of primitivity that unveils Jung's belief in and support of White supremacy. With no intended disrespect or neglect intended toward America's First Nations, this article focuses primarily on Jung's apparent disdain for Blacks (the Negro). Utilizing writings from Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois and Na'im Akbar, this article highlights ways in which Jung's biases align with the White supremacist perspective of the Negro as a problem, detrimental to social order. The paper concludes with an Appendix which outlines a call to the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) to take corrective action and to publicly denounce those facets of Jung's writings that diverge from the core of his theory and that promote toxic attitudes of bigotry, perhaps discouraging many people of colour from enrolling in analytic training.In this paper I attempt to show how deep engagement, which is gradually developed within the relational container, can facilitate access to the psychoid dimension of the unconscious characterized by a quality of interconnectedness. The resulting synchronistic experiences can support and strengthen this container as well as having profound re-connecting impact on the people involved. With this in mind, I suggest that openness to this dimension can be very important in working with the issues of loss, abandonment, aloneness and mistrust in human connections - the symbolic domain of the orphan. Although none of the patients I describe in this paper were actual orphans, symbolically the orphan theme featured significantly in their processes, in that early relational trauma left them feeling profoundly alone and unable to trust human contact. For this reason, the most important yet difficult challenge of the work was to help them restore their sense of connectedness to themselves and to others. I consider the role of attunement and reverie as the basis for facilitating this openness and propose that such openness can be seen as a feature of the analytic attitude in its own right and that it constitutes a unique contribution of the Jungian approach to working with early trauma.
Research has established pairwise relationships between suicidal ideation (SI), low Body Trust, elevated agitation, and eating disorders, but knowledge of how these aspects relate in a single model is lacking. This study tested an indirect pathway with low Body Trust relating to severity of SI via agitation in a clinical eating disorder sample.

Participants (N = 319; 92.8% female; 93.4% Caucasian; mean age 21.8 years) were adults currently receiving specialized eating disorder treatment (44.3% intensive outpatient or higher level-of-care) who completed online self-report measures of study variables. The PROCESS macro was utilized to test proposed pathways.

Low Body Trust was significantly directly associated with increased severity of current SI, both before (B = -.89, p < .001) and after (B = -.51, p = .001) accounting for the indirect effect through agitation, also significant (B = -.37, SE = .06, CI -.52 to -.26).

Perception of the body as unsafe may be related to agitation, and this intolerable sensation of trapped arousal could contribute to a desire to die. Future work should investigate these relationships prospectively to determine the relevance of Body Trust for assessment and treatment of suicide-related factors among individuals with eating disorders.

To determine if three different commercially available seizure-detection software packages (Besa 2.0, Encevis 1.7, and Persyst 13) accurately detect seizures with high sensitivity, high specificity, and short detection delay in epilepsy patients undergoing long-term video-electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring (VEM).

Detection rates on a per-patient basis were not significantly different between Besa (mean 67.6%, range 0-100%), Encevis (77.8%, 0-100%) and Persyst (81%, 0-100%; P=.059). False alarm rate (per hour) was significantly different between Besa (mean 0.7/h, range 0.01-6.2/h), Encevis (0.2/h, 0.01-0.5/h), and Persyst (0.9/h, 0.04-6.5/h; P<.001). We systematically reviewed the literature on health-related quality of life (HrQoL) and functional disability (FD) of patients after surgery for intracranial meningiomas. Using PRISMA 2015 guidelines, we screened 289 abstracts and 43 titles were retained for full-paper screening. 15 articles did not present enough data to meet the inclusion criteria and 7 articles failed to assess functional assessment and HrQoL. Twenty-two articles were included in our review. HrQol was assessed in N = 18 publications, most frequently using SF-36 (N = 10), followed by EQ5D-5L (N = 4), EORTC-QLQ (N = 4), and the FACT questionnaire (N = 2). The assessment of FD was reported in N = 11 publications, mostly using the KPS (N = 8). The Barthel index was used in N = 2 publications. selleckchem Follow-up was reported in N = 12 publications, ranging from 6 months to 9 years. Scientific publications assessing long-term postoperative HrQol and FD in patients undergoing meningioma surgery are scarce and the data are heterogeneously reported, using various scales and follow-up protocols. Efforts should be undertaken to uniformly assess long-term post-operative functional outcomes in meningioma patients.
