We aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and introduce a new subclassification system for type II first branchial cleft anomalies (FBCAs) based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings.

We conducted an analysis of data from patients with type II FBCAs. MRI findings were used to categorize FBCAs into three subtypes. FBCAs located between the subcutaneous tissue and parotid were classified as type IIa. FBCAs located between the deep and superficial lobes of the parotid were classified as type IIb. FBCAs located between the parotid and the carotid sheath were classified as type IIc.

Patients with type II FBCAs were classified as type IIa, IIb, and IIc in 14, 14, and seven cases, respectively. Type IIa lesions exhibited a close relationship with the facial nerve in 42.9% of cases. In these cases, the main trunk of the facial nerve adhered to the lesion and was located superficially to the FBCA. In all patients with type IIb lesions, the main trunk and marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve adhered to the lesion. The main trunk of the facial nerve adhered to the lesion in one patient with a type IIc. There was no relationship between the lesion and the facial nerve in the remaining type IIc cases.

MRI can be used to identify the locations of FBCA and the parotid, which can aid surgeons in predicting the relationship between the lesion and the facial nerve. It is feasible to classify type II FBCAs into three subtypes based on MRI.

Pure Mg was implanted in sockets after rat mandibular incisors were extracted. Titanium (Ti) was used as control. Systemic effects were determined by serum Mg level and histologic analyses of liver and kidney. Local Mg concentration was measured by microscopy-energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Alveolar bone was analyzed by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and histology. Osteogenic effects of 0.8 to 20mM magnesium chloride (MgCl
) on periosteum-derived cells (PDCs) were evaluated by proliferation, alizarin red staining and quantitative RT-PCR assays.

Systemic effects were similar in Mg and Ti groups. Higher local Mg concentration was detected in Mg group (P<0.05). Micro-CT showed higher alveolar bone volume (2- and 6-weeks post-operation) and denser cancellous bone (2weeks post-operation) in Mg group, with significant amount of new subperiosteal bone formation on lateral alveolar bone surfaces by H&E staining. In PDC culture, proliferation rates, osteogenic gene expression for runt related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), bone sialoprotein (Bsp) and osteocalcin (Ocn), as well as calcium nodule formation rose significantly in 5, 10, and 20mM MgCl
groups.

In this work, a high and durable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance directly from bimetallic Zn100-x Cox -ZIF samples is reported, without carrying out high-temperature calcination and/or carbonization. ZIFs can be reproducibly and readily synthesized in large scale at ambient conditions. The bimetallic ZIFs show a systematic and gradually improved OER activity with increasing cobalt concentration. A further increase in OER activity is evidenced in ZIF-67 polyhedrons with controlled particle size of 50 %, OER activity is obtained with ZIF-67/carbon black, which shows a low overpotential of approximately 320 mV in 1.0 m KOH electrolyte. Such activity is comparable to or better than numerous MOF/ZIF-derived electrocatalysts. The optimized ZIF-67 sample also exhibits increased activity and durability over 24 h, which is attributed to an in situ developed active cobalt oxide/oxyhydroxide related nanophase.Massively parallel sequencing (MPS) technology allows to simultaneously type multitudinous molecular genetic markers for many samples in one run with the feature of high detection resolution, and thereby arouses the increasing attention from forensic science. Herein, multiple allelic single nucleotide polymorphisms (multi-allelic SNPs) were screened for personal identification and parentage testing, and then were genotyped using MPS platform. Unrelated individuals of Chinese Mongolian and Kazakh groups were investigated to further estimate forensic effectiveness and applicability of these multi-allelic SNPs. The results of sequencing efficiency estimations and forensic genetic statistical parameters demonstrated that this MPS panel of multi-allelic SNPs was expected to be work for forensic applications. Subsequently, the exploration of population genetic variation patterns among the two investigated groups and other 26 reference populations revealed that these Chinese Mongolian and Kazakh groups had the similar population genetic patterns with the populations from East Asian, but European ancestral composition in the Kazakh group was higher than that in the Mongolian group.
