A search within the PubMed database was conducted and a total of 60 publications were selected. We classified the studies based on the methods used to measure patients' quality of life (QoL) and categorized the life domains reported to be affected.

Self-image/body configuration was the most reported affected domain of patients' QoL, identified in 32 papers, whilst mental health/stress was the second most reported affected domain. Mental health was identified in 11 papers, and 11 papers using the BSSQ questionnaire reported medium stress amongst their participants. Vitality was the third most reported affected domain, identified in 12 papers.

Our review indicates that scoliotic adolescents treated with bracing suffer in their quality of life most from psychological burdens. To improve these patients' life quality, more attention should be focussed on supporting their mental health.

To improve these patients' life quality, more attention should be focussed on supporting their mental health.Despite some advances in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic (ALL) and myeloid leukemia (AML) in recent years, there is still a prominent percentage of pediatric patients with a reduced overall prognosis. Therefore, other therapeutic approaches are needed to treat those patients. In the present study, we report that the metal chelator TPEN affected ΔΨm and DNA content in isolated CD34+ refractory cells from bone marrow ALL (n = 7; B-cell, n = 4; T-cell, n = 3) and AML (n = 3) pediatric patients. Furthermore, TPEN induced oxidation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor protein DJ-1, induced up-regulation of BH3-only pro-apoptotic protein PUMA, transcription factor p53 and activated the executor protease CASPASE-3 as apoptosis markers, and reduced the reactivity of the cellular proliferating marker Ki-67 in all acute leukemic groups, and reduced the phosphorylation of c-ABL protein signal in an AML case. Remarkably, bone marrow cells from non-leukemic patients' cells (n = 2) displayed neither loss of ΔΨm nor loss of DNA content when exposed to TPEN. We conclude that TPEN selectively induces apoptosis in acute leukemic cells via reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling mechanism. Understanding the pathways of TPEN-induced cell death may provide insight into more effective therapeutic ROS-inducing anticancer agents.Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) based on biventricular pacing (BVP) is an invaluable intervention currently used in heart failure (HF) patients. The therapy involves electromechanical dyssynchrony, which can not only improve heart function and quality of life but also reduce hospitalization and mortality rates. However, approximately 30% to 40% of patients remain unresponsive to conventional BVP in clinical practice. In the recent years, extensive research has been employed to find a more physiological approach to cardiac resynchronization. The His-Purkinje system pacing (HPSP) including His bundle pacing (HBP) and left bundle branch area pacing (LBBaP) may potentially be the future of CRT. These technologies present various advantages including offering an almost real physiological pacing, less complicated procedures, and economic feasibility. Additionally, other methods, such as isolated left-ventricular pacing and multipoint pacing, may in the future be important but non-mainstream alternatives to CRT because currently, there is no strong evidence to support their effectiveness. In the majority of patients, the disease has a slow evolution and a protracted course; however, a subset of patients shows poor oncologic outcomes. Unfortunately, there are no reliable prognostic markers for MF, and the currently available treatments are only effective in a minority of patients. In MF, PARP-1 is overexpressed in advanced stages, while CAF-1/p60 is overexpressed in the cases with shorter overall survival, appearing as a significant prognostic marker. A role for PARP-1 inhibitors and anti-CAF-1/p60 targeted therapy may be reasonably hypothesized in MF.The combined positive score (CPS) and tumor proportion score (TPS) have been developed to evaluate programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression, especially due to the potential benefit of the targeted therapy. However, the prognostic value of PD-L1 scoring systems in gastric cancer (GC) remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate PD-L1 expression according to CPS and TPS in curative resected GC patients and its correlation with prognosis. We retrospectively evaluated 284 GC patients who underwent D2-gastrectomy by tissue microarray. PD-L1 expression was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. PD-L1 positivity by CPS and TPS was observed in 45 (15.8%) and 34 (12%) patients, respectively. Larger tumor size (p = 0.028), undetermined Lauren type (p less then 0.001), and heavy inflammatory infiltrate (p = 0.009) were associated with CPS-positive GC.
