This editorial review attempts to summarize our current knowledge derived from previous in vivo studies to examine the impact of several nanomaterials on various species of mammals and non-target model organisms at the genetic, cellular, and molecular levels, attracting attention to the possible mechanisms and potential toxic/genotoxic effects of nanopesticides widely used in agriculture on D. melanogaster as a non-target organism.Histiocytoses are one of the ultimate diagnostic challenges that every physician face at least once in his/her life. Giving their protean manifestation and differentiated therapeutic needs, histiocytosis requires extensive characterization and multidisciplinary management. Mixed histiocytosis is an emerging group of syndromes defined by the overlap of Langerhans cell histiocytosis and another histiocytic disorder of different type. Despite rare, it may account for up to a fifth of systemic histiocytosis patients in some series. In this work, we comprehensively review for the first time the clinical, radiological, histopathological and molecular features of mixed histiocytosis in children and adults. Moreover, we propose a clinical classification in three groups that differentiate patients with systemic involvement and worse overall survival to other groups with more localized manifestations and indolent behavior, wanting to ease their recognition and treatment. Interestingly we also found that mixed histiocytosis harbor BRAFV600E mutations with a higher frequency comparing to all other histiocytoses, and may therefore benefit of specific inhibitory drugs.
To describe internet use for health information among adolescents with uncontrolled persistent asthma, and to examine whether health-related internet use is associated with responsibility for home asthma management.

We analyzed baseline data from the School-Based Asthma Care for Teens (SB-ACT) Trial, which included adolescents (12-16 years) in an urban school district who had uncontrolled persistent asthma per caregiver report. We asked adolescents whether they had ever used the Internet to look for health or medical information (Y/N). Teens then described family responsibility for 9 asthma management tasks (e.g. Isoxazole 9 nmr full caregiver responsibility, shared responsibility, or full teen responsibility). We examined responsibility sum scores in addition to responsibility for individual management tasks. We used bivariate and multivariate analyses to compare health-related internet use with participant characteristics, teen-reported asthma symptoms, and management responsibility.

We examined data for 425 adolescel and digital spaces, and ensure that all patients can access accurate, patient-centered asthma information when needed.Background In the PAUSE (Perioperative Anticoagulant Use for Surgery Evaluation) Study, a simple, standardized, perioperative interruption strategy was provided for patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation taking direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). Our objective was to define the factors associated with perioperative bleeding. Methods and Results We analyzed bleeding as the composite of major and clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding. Putative predictors of bleeding, and preoperative DOAC level were prospectively collected during recruitment. We used stratified logistic regression models for analysis. All statistical analyses were performed in R version 3.6.0. There were 3007 patients requiring perioperative DOAC interruption. More than one third of the included patients underwent a high bleeding risk procedure. The 30-day rates of major and clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding were 3.02% in apixaban (n=1257), 2.84% in dabigatran (n=668), and 4.16% for rivaroxaban (n=1082). Multivariate analysis stratified by region found more bleeding for hypertension (odds ratio [OR], 1.79; 95% CI 1.07-2.99; P=0.027), and prior bleeding (OR, 1.71; 95% CI, 1.08-2.71; P=0.021). Surgical bleed risk classification (high- versus low-risk) as a predictor of bleeding was only significant in the univariate analysis. The prediction model for major and clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding had an area under the curve of 0.71, and the preoperative DOAC level did not improve the area under the curve of the model. Conclusions In patients treated with DOACs who required an elective surgery/procedure and were managed with standardized DOAC interruption and resumption, there we did not find reversible risk factors for bleeding, suggesting that adjustment of the PAUSE management protocol to mitigate against bleeding is not needed.Background The emergence of specific therapies for transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (CA) warrants the need for a systematic review of the literature. Methods and Results A systematic review of the literature was conducted according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A systematic search was performed on MEDLINE, PubMed, and Embase databases on November 29, 2019. Studies were selected based on the following predefined eligibility criteria English-language randomized controlled trials (RCTs), non-RCTs, or observational studies, which included adult patients with variant/wild-type transthyretin-CA, assessed specific therapies for transthyretin-CA, and reported cardiovascular outcomes. Relevant data were extracted to a predefined template. Quality assessment was based on National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommendations (RCTs) or a checklist by Downs and Black (non-RCTs). From 1203 records, 24 publications were selected, describing 4 RCTs (6 herapeutic targets including transthyretin gene silencers are currently under investigation.The study aimed to develop a biocompatible microcapsule for hepatocytes and create a bio-mimic microenvironment for maintaining hepatic-specific functions of hepatocytes in vitro. The work is proposed for the bioartificial liver system in the treatment of liver failure. In this study, microcapsules were prepared with hyaluronate (HA)/sodium alginate (SA) as an inner core and an outer chitosan (CS) shell via one-step spraying method. C3A cells were encapsulated in microcapsules to examine the biocompatibility of HA-SA-CS microcapsules. MTT and fluorescence microscopy indicated that C3A cells had high viability in the HA-SA-CS microcapsules. The liver-specific functions, such as urea and albumin synthesis, and CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 activities from encapsulated cells were increased in the HA-SA-CS microcapsules compared to the SA-CS microcapsules. The gene expressions of CYP450 related genes were also increased by HA on day 3. The study suggests that HA-SA-CS microcapsules have good biocompatibility and can maintain a favorable environment for hepatocytes.
