CONCLUSION Our results suggested that topical application of TXA in fracture patients may accelerate healing, whereas systemic administration may adversely affect healing.OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare two different tendon grafting techniques for coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction from the data obtained using finite element analysis. Oncodazole METHODS Three different finite element models of the shoulder girdle were formulated using computerized tomography images the reference model, coracoid loop technique (CLT), and drilling technique (DT) model. In all these models, forces were applied to the clavicle along three axes (x, y, and z) of the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles. Thereafter, data regarding the loading values of the tendon grafts, loads on the coracoid base, and coracoclavicular vertical distance were measured. RESULTS While the reference model yielded the lowest values for all the loading conditions as well as the shortest coracoclavicular distance, the DT model demonstrated the highest values for all the loading conditions and the largest coracoclavicular distance. CONCLUSION Different tendon grafting techniques may offer different loading values on both bone surface and tendon graft during coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction. The drilling technique may be associated with increased loading on the tendon graft and bone surface, causing further loss of reduction and consequent complications.OBJECTIVE Patients who underwent arthroscopic repair for partial rotator cuff tears were evaluated retrospectively. This study purposed to assess the postoperative clinical results of arthroscopic treatment of intratendinous rotator cuff tears and to investigate the effect of the tear type on the postoperative clinical outcomes. METHODS Overall, 60 patients [36 women and 24 men; mean age 48.6±12.2 years (range 33-67 years)] who underwent arthroscopic repair of Ellman stage 3 partial rotator cuff tear were evaluated retrospectively. These patients were grouped into the following three groups articular-sided tears, bursal-sided tears, and intratendinous tears, with 20 patients included in each group. Subacromial decompression, acromioplasty, and tear repair without transforming to full-thickness tear were applied to the bursal-sided tears. The same technique was performed for intratendinous ruptures, with the only technical difference was that the capsular tissue was preserved during debridement of intratendinotment of intratendinous tears were similar to the other types of partial tears, and the results of arthroscopic treatment of grade 3 partial rotator cuff tears revealed satisfactory outcomes, regardless of the type of the tear. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level III, Therapeutic study.OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) on the healing of vertical medial meniscal tears in a rabbit model. METHODS The study was conducted on 72 New Zealand mature rabbits aged more than 6 months. Rabbits were randomly assigned to six groups control (C) group, meniscal repair (MR) group, PRP group, PRFM group, MR+PRP group, and MR+PRFM group, with 12 rabbits in each group. A 5-mm full-thickness vertical tear was created in the avascular zone of the medial meniscus corpus in the right knee of all rabbits. The respective treatment for each group was given to the meniscal tear in each rabbit. Histological evaluation of healing was performed 6 and 12 weeks after surgery. RESULTS Defect filling and collagen formation remained low in the C group. However, in all other groups, there was no significant difference in the 6th week. In the 12th week, similar results as those obtained in the 6th week were obtained. In the C group, there was a difference in defect filling and cell type. This difference was that the defect filling and collagen formation remained low in the 12th week. No significant difference was observed between MR, MR + PRP and MR + PRFM groups. The MR group significantly differed from the other groups in the defect-filling rate and cell type; however, the use of PRP and PRFM did not provide an obvious benefit. CONCLUSION The contradictory results obtained in previous studies emphasize the need for further research on the use of PRP in meniscal recovery and repair. We believe that if surgery is indicated, repair is absolutely necessary to improve the healing of the tissue in meniscal tears. Studies using human meniscal tissue for meniscal injury and those that evaluate clinical applications of PRP are warranted.OBJECTIVE This study compared the clinical and radiological results of the arthroscopic transosseous (ATO) and transosseous-equivalent (TOE) double-row rotator cuff repair techniques. METHODS Prospective data collected from patients treated with ATO (32 women and 7 men, mean age 57.03±6.39 years) and TOE (36 women and 8 men; mean age 57.86±7.81 years) techniques were retrospectively evaluated. The visual analog scale score, Constant score, and Oxford shoulder score were used to assess the clinical results. Anchor pullout on standard anteroposterior shoulder radiographs and rotator cuff re-tear on magnetic resonance images were examined at the final follow-up to evaluate the radiological results. Rotator cuff re-tears were graded as per the classification system described by Sugaya et al. Results The mean follow-up duration was 33.3±11.8 months. No difference was observed in the demographic data of the two groups. Significant improvement was observed in the postoperative shoulder scores of the groups; however, no difference was observed between the groups. Re-tear was detected in 10 patients of the TOE group and 9 patients of the ATO group. Age, tear size, and retraction level could cause re-tear. CONCLUSION In the treatment of rotator cuff tears, the ATO and TOE techniques may achieve considerable improvements in shoulder functions in the short term.
