The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a moderate incidence of anaemia among pregnant and nonpregnant women and among children younger than 59 months in 2011.
The aim of this study was to investigate anaemia among children younger than 14 years submitted to haematological exams at the Children's Teaching Hospital in Karbala, Iraq.
This was a cross-sectional study carried out in the Children's Teaching Hospital Laboratory Department in Karbala, Iraq, from 1 July 2019 until 1 September 2019.
The prevalence of anaemia among children aged 0-14 years in Karbala was 9.9%. There was no significant relationship between the type of anaemia diagnosed and age or sex. However, there was a significantly positive relationship between the type of anaemia diagnosed and each ferritin level, mean corpuscular volume, and mean corpuscular haemoglobin (p<0.0001). The study participant skull diameter and length in relation to sex were compared to the WHO reference values for child growth standards, and the study values were less than the normal range for children below 5 years of age.
A high prevalence of anaemia among children was reported with its apparent consequence on their health. This study highlights the prevalence of anaemia among children up to 14 years of age in Karbala, and future research is encouraged.

Venous thromboembolism is a significant clinical event, with an annual incidence of 1-2 per 1000 population. Risk factors include recent surgery, prolonged immobility, oral contraceptive use, and active cancer. Inherited risks include protein C and S deficiencies, antithrombin deficiency, factor V Leiden mutation and prothrombin. These factors can be tested to guide therapy, but current evidence suggests that testing for inherited thrombophilia is not recommended in most inpatient settings. In the era of high value care, hypercoagulable testing for VTE creates a financial burden for the hospital and patients. We performed a retrospective chart review of hypercoagulable orders on VTE patients at our institution.
Institutional Review Board approval was obtained. A total of 287 adult patients admitted over a 3-month period with the diagnosis of VTE were included. Patients were identified via ICD-10 codes and data were collected from electronic medical records. Patient characteristics, provoked versus unprovoicians is thus warranted to ensure high value care.
In our study, numerous patients were tested without compliance to standard recommendations, which created financial and value-based burdens on our health care system. Increased awareness among clinicians is thus warranted to ensure high value care.
Health professionals are challenged with physical, chemical, and psychological hazards. The major areas in which nurses perform hazardous tasks were are injection, cleaning, patient care, bed making, cleaning and dressing of wounds, medication administration, and performing operations. During performing these activities, healthcare providers are exposed to many types of occupational hazards. So, there is a dearth of information on the prevalence of occupational hazards among nursing and midwifery students in this study area.
This study aims to assess exposure to occupational health hazards among nursing and midwifery students during clinical practice at Mekelle University.
Institutional-based cross-sectional study design was conducted from February to June 2017. The study participants were selected nursing and midwifery students of Mekelle University who had ever been attached for clinical practice. A sample of 151 students was recruited by a simple random sampling technique proportionate to their size.ry students. The majority of the students have poor knowledge concerning occupational hazards. To build a skilled nurse and midwife, it is mandatory to train all students before clinical practice about safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
Substance use-related problems including cigarette smoking and alcohol use are among leading preventable risk factors for premature death. However, people with these problems did not get the appropriate treatment they need. Stigma against substance use could be the potential barrier for people with problematic substance use to seek professional help. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate magnitude and associated factors of perceived stigma towards problematic substance use.
A total of 2400 participants were screened using the Cut down, Annoyed, Guilty, and Eye-opener (CAGE) Adapted to Include Drugs (CAGE-AID) questionnaire. We found 540 participants screened positive for problematic substance use (alcohol, hashish, tobacco and khat) and interviewed them for perceived stigma using Perceived Stigma of Substance Abuse Scale (PSAS). Logistic regression was used to examine associated factors with perceived stigma.
Three hundred forty-five (63.9%) participants reported perceived stigma above the mean value of Perceived Stigma of Substance Abuse Scale (PSAS). learn more Variables positively associated with perceived stigma were lower wealth and joblessness, history of separation from family members before age of 18 years, poly-substance misuse and awareness about economic crisis of substance use.
Approximately, three in five people with problematic substance use perceived having been stigmatized by others. Health planning for problematic substance use should focus on stigma.

With the advantage of the restructured education in Vietnam, the social-emotional learning (SEL) framework has been gradually piloting applied into the educational curriculum. However, the SEL integration is only effective in primary school.
This study applied qualitative phenomenological research, which used in-depth interviews with students and core teachers who have experienced SEL from previous studies to explore and explain the SEL integration is not successful at the secondary level.
Four findings showed the current challenges of SEL's integration in Vietnamese educational curriculum 1) the incompatibility between the current curriculum and the teachers' pedagogical capacity; 2) the perceived difficulties in integrating SEL into educational activities; 3) the limited focus on understanding the students' psychology; and 4) students cannot develop their social-emotional competence.
When the challenges can be solved, corresponding to the solutions discussed, can the SEL framework be properly integrated into Vietnamese education, as well as designing an integrated continuous SEL-orientated curriculum across school levels, meeting the requirements of the new educational curriculum.
