Meteorological parameters play a major role in the transmission of infectious diseases such as COVID-19. In this study, we aim to analyze the correlation between meteorological parameters and COVID-19 pandemic in the financial capital of India, Mumbai.
In this research, we collected data from April 27 till July 25, 2020 (90 days). A Spearman rank correlation test along with two-tailed p test and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique have been used to predict the associations of COVID-19 with meteorological parameters.
A significant correlation of COVID-19 was found with temperature (T
), dew point (DP
), relative humidity (RH
, RH
, RH
) and surface pressure (P
, P
, P
). The parameters which showed significant correlation were then taken for the modeling and prediction of COVID-19 infections using Artificial Neural Network technique.
It was found that the relative humidity and pressure parameters had the most influencing effect out of all other significant parameters (obtained from Spearman's method) on the active number of COVID-19 cases. The finding in this study might be useful for the public, local authorities, and the Ministry of Health, Govt. of India to combat COVID-19.

Marteilia refringens, Bonamia ostreae and Bonamia exitiosa are regulated protozoan parasites infecting flat oysters Ostrea edulis that are endemic in Europe. Although some PCR assays have been already developed for their detection, a formal validation to assess the performances of those tools is often lacking. In order to facilitate the diagnosis of flat oyster regulated diseases, we have developed and evaluated a new multiplex Taqman® PCR allowing the detection of both M. refringens and Bonamia sp. parasites in one step. First part of this work consisted in assessing analytical sensitivity and specificity of the new PCR assay. Then, diagnostic performances were assessed by testing a panel of field samples with the new real-time PCR and currently recommended conventional PCR methods for the detection of M. refringens and Bonamia sp. Samples were collected from the main fl in a single step and it should allow reducing the number of analysis to monitor both diseases, and where relevant to demonstrate freedom from infection.Although the prevalence of brucellosis in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region currently remains high, data available on the epidemiological of circulating Brucella abortus strains were limited. A total of 75 isolates obtained from cattle, sheep, and humans were analysed using both the classical method and multiple locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA). There are at least three B. abortus biovars (1, 3 and 6) in this region, and B. abortus biovar 3 is the predominant one. Ten known MLVA-11 genotypes were identified, of which five genotypes (72, 75, 78, 82 and 210) were shared among strains from this study and others previously collected in two to seven different nations, suggesting that this population has multiple geographic origins. An MLVA-16 assay sorted the 75 B. abortus strains into two groups (I and II), 5 clusters (A-E) and 44 genotypes (GT1-44), with 26 unique genotypes represented by single isolates, indicating that these B. abortus brucellosis cases were not directly epidemiologically related. The remaining 18 shared genotypes (among a total of 47 isolates) were represented by two to eight isolates, suggesting that there were epidemiologically related pathogens from each shared genotype among the cases. Importantly, the cluster B1 branch including 22 cluster isolates with identical or similar genotypes confirmed the occurrence of a concentrated outbreak epidemic in the eastern region during 1988-1995. This work will contribute to better understanding of B. abortus brucellosis epidemiology in Inner Mongolia.Ecological restoration program (ERP) is widely recognized as an effective measure to combat land degradation and improve environmental quality. However, inappropriate ERPs lead to trade-offs between soil retention and water yield as well as conflicts of soil and water resources between the midstream and the downstream of catchment. This study aims to assess the efficiency of ERPs in soil erosion control and identify the trade-offs between soil retention and water yield through the lens of runoff and sediment regimes in contrasting catchments of the Loess Plateau (LP) and the Karst Plateau (KP). Although favorable climate and rapid vegetation restoration substantially reduced water erosion in both these areas, the hydrological responses were not the same because of climate differences. In the arid LP, water and energy variables correlated closely with vegetation cover. Excessive afforestation programs in drylands increased vegetation transpiration and soil evaporation, further exhausting soil water resources, and eventually causing water yield reduction. see more However, soil and water conservation programs (SWCPs) in the humid KP reduced sediment yield substantially, and the runoff remained stable. Significant runoff reduction in the midstream of the Yellow River aggravated water scarcity and threatened the downstream water demand. Meanwhile, sediment load decline in the LP and the KP impacted sediment deposition in the downstream and estuary formation. From the perspective of integrated catchment governance, human interventions including ERP and SWCP should be more sustainable and consider not only the target process at the local scale (intracoupling effect), but also unprecedented non-target process at the regional scale (telecoupling effect). In addition, it should allow for the supply-demand balance of competing soil and water resources to achieve the coordinated development of resources, environment, and production.
