The treatment and management of chronic wounds presents a massive financial burden for global health care systems, with significant and disturbing consequences for the patients affected. These wounds remain challenging to treat, reduce the patients' life quality, and are responsible for a high percentage of limb amputations and many premature deaths. The presence of bacterial biofilms hampers chronic wound therapy due to the high tolerance of biofilm cells to many first- and second-line antibiotics. Due to the appearance of antibiotic-resistant and multidrug-resistant pathogens in these types of wounds, the research for alternative and complementary therapeutic approaches has increased. Bacteriophage (phage) therapy, discovered in the early 1900s, has been revived in the last few decades due to its antibacterial efficacy against antibiotic-resistant clinical isolates. Its use in the treatment of non-healing wounds has shown promising outcomes. In this review, we focus on the societal problems of chronic wounds, describe both the history and ongoing clinical trials of chronic wound-related treatments, and also outline experiments carried out for efficacy evaluation with different phage-host systems using in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo animal models. We also describe the modern and most recent delivery systems developed for the incorporation of phages for species-targeted antibacterial control while protecting them upon exposure to harsh conditions, increasing the shelf life and facilitating storage of phage-based products. In this review, we also highlight the advances in phage therapy regulation.Camera calibration is a crucial step for computer vision in many applications. For example, adequate calibration is required in infrared thermography inside gas turbines for blade temperature measurements, for associating each pixel with the corresponding point on the blade 3D model. The blade has to be used as the calibration frame, but it is always only partially visible, and thus, there are few control points. We propose and test a method that exploits the anisotropic uncertainty of the control points and improves the calibration in conditions where the number of control points is limited. Assuming a bivariate Gaussian 2D distribution of the position error of each control point, we set uncertainty areas of control points' position, which are ellipses (with specific axis lengths and rotations) within which the control points are supposed to be. We use these ellipses to set a weight matrix to be used in a weighted Direct Linear Transformation (wDLT). We present the mathematical formalism for this modified calibration algorithm, and we apply it to calibrate a camera from a picture of a well known object in different situations, comparing its performance to the standard DLT method, showing that the wDLT algorithm provides a more robust and precise solution. We finally discuss the quantitative improvements of the algorithm by varying the modules of random deviations in control points' positions and with partial occlusion of the object.Interventions to promote physical activity (PA) in children, adolescents and young adults based on social-cognitive theories often fail to increase PA. In recent years, affect-based approaches have gained interest, but the current state of research is not sufficiently reported. Therefore, a systematic review about the influence of interventions to promote positive affect and PA enjoyment and PA in children, adolescents and young adults was conducted. Literature searches were carried out including studies published between September 2009 and April 2019. Intervention studies targeting healthy children, adolescents or young adults and measuring enjoyment and PA were included. Thirteen studies met the inclusion criteria, including five group-based PA interventions, three multi-component school interventions, two internet-based interventions and three exergaming interventions. Most studies use multiple components in their intervention. Group-based PA programs incorporating task-oriented teaching styles and opportunities for voluntary PA are most consistently associated with positive findings. This review shows moderate evidence of interventions for children, adolescents and young adults being effective in increasing enjoyment and PA. Besides physical education and comprehensive school interventions, heterogenous intervention designs limit the comparability of studies. Future research should focus on theory-based, multi-component interventions with mediator analyses. This article presents a compact, planar, quad-port ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with wide axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW). The proposed MIMO design consists of four identical square-shaped antenna elements, where each element is made up of a circular slotted ground plane and feed by a 50 Ω microstrip line. The circular polarization is achieved using a protruding hexagonal stub from the ground plane. The four elements of the MIMO antenna are placed orthogonally to each other to obtain high inter-element isolation. FR-4 dielectric substrate of size 45 × 45 × 1.6 mm3 is used for the antenna prototype, and a good agreement is noticed among the simulated and experimental results. The proposed MIMO antenna shows 3-dB ARBW of 52% (3.8-6.5 GHz) and impedance bandwidth (S11 ≤ -10 dB) of 144% (2.2-13.5 GHz).Carbon fiber-microelectrodes (CFMEs) have been the standard for neurotransmitter detection for over forty years. However, in recent years, there have been many advances of utilizing alternative nanomaterials for neurotransmitter detection with fast scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV). Recently, carbon nanotube (CNT) yarns have been developed as the working electrode materials for neurotransmitter sensing capabilities with fast scan cyclic voltammetry. Carbon nanotubes are ideal for neurotransmitter detection because they have higher aspect ratios enabling monoamine adsorption and lower limits of detection, faster electron transfer kinetics, and a resistance to surface fouling. Several methods to modify CFMEs with CNTs have resulted in increases in sensitivity, but have also increased noise and led to irreproducible results. Panobinostat In this study, we utilize commercially available CNT-yarns to make microelectrodes as enhanced neurotransmitter sensors for neurotransmitters such as serotonin. CNT-yarn microelectrodes have significantly higher sensitivities (peak oxidative currents of the cyclic voltammograms) than CFMEs and faster electron transfer kinetics as measured by peak separation (ΔEP) values.
