We aimed to investigate fertilisation rates, quality of embryo, pregnancy and live birth rates, endocrine, sexual function, psychological status and quality of life of cases diagnosed with Klinefelter syndrome (KS).

Clinical findings, hormone values and semen analyses in patients with nonmosaic KS (Group 1, n=121) and those with non-genetic nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) (Group 2, n=178) were retrospectively analysed. Sperm retrieval outcomes with microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE), fertilisation rates and embryo quality, pregnancy, abortion and live birth rates were compared. Sexual functions were assessed using IIEF-15, quality of life was evaluated and psychological status was assessed.

There was no difference in terms of age between groups. Sperm retrieval rates was 38% and 55.6% in Groups 1 and 2, respectively (P=.012). Sperm retrieval rates were higher in Group 1 before 31.5years than in Group 2 (AUC=0.620 and 0.578). The critical enabling factor of our approach was the introduction of oxygen, which upon electrochemical reduction induces the initial decomposition of TEP and produces Li3 PO4 and poly-phosphates. Importantly, the reaction was self-limiting, and the resulting material regulated Li plating by limiting dendrite formation. In effect, we obtained a functional SEI on Li metal in a nonflammable electrolyte. When tested in a symmetric Li∥Li cell, more than 300 cycles of stripping/plating were measured at a current density of 0.5 mA cm-2 . Prototypical Li-O2 and Li-ion batteries were also fabricated and tested to further support the effectiveness of this strategy. The mechanism by which the SEI forms was studied by density functional theory (DFT), and the predictions were corroborated by the successful detection of the intermediates and products.
African-American carriers of the transthyretin (TTR) valine-to-isoleucine substitution (V122I) are at increased risk of heart failure, yet many have relatively subtle abnormalities of left ventricular (LV) function. We sought to explore the influence of this mutation on left atrial (LA) structure and function in this population.

We assessed 1225 genotyped African-Americans (age range, 67-89 years) participating in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study who underwent echocardiography and were in sinus rhythm at study Visit 5 (2011 to 2013). Six LA parameters [LA maximum/minimum volume index, ejection fraction, and LA reservoir, conduit, and contractile longitudinal strains (LS)] were compared between V122I TTR variant carriers (n=46) and non-carriers (n=1179). LA minimum volume index was significantly greater and LA contractile LS was worse in carriers than non-carriers (19.5 ± 10.6 mL/m
vs. 16.3 ± 8.4 mL/m
; 15.0 ± 5.8% vs. 16.8 ± 5.7%, respectively, both P < 0.05). Carriers had a significantly higher number of LA abnormalities than non-carriers (1.8 ± 2.2 vs. 1.1 ± 1.6, P=0.009). The number of subjects with at least four LA abnormalities was significantly increased among carriers compared with non-carriers (27% vs. 12%; odds ratio 2.43; 95% confidence interval 1.06-5.58 after adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, and LV wall thickness and global LS).

Herein, we described a safe and practical synthesis of a bench-stable and easy-to-handle solution of SF5 Cl in n-hexane under gas-reagent-free conditions. The synthetic application of SF5 Cl was demonstrated through the unprecedented reaction with diazo compounds. The chemoselective hydro- and chloropentafluorosulfanylations of α-diazo carbonyl compounds were developed in the presence of K3 PO4 or copper catalyst, respectively. These reactions provide a direct and efficient access to various α-pentafluorosulfanyl carbonyl compounds of high value for potential applications.
Arterial sampling, which is the gold standard for measuring lactate levels in sepsis, is more painful, requires experience and is associated with a higher incidence of morbidity, when compared with venous sampling. This study attempted to measure the correlation and agreement between arterial and peripheral venous (PV) lactate and between arterial and central venous (CV) lactate, with the objective to test interchangeability of the two and possibly support the use of venous lactate levels in resuscitating patients with sepsis.

Eighty-seven patients admitted to the critical care unit of our hospital with the diagnosis of sepsis or septic shock were included in the study after taking informed consent. The arterial, PV and CV samples were taken within the first 24hours following admission and within 10minutes of each other. Lactate levels, CV oxygen saturation (ScvO
) and base excess of each sample type were reported within 15minutes of collection. Patients were followed up for a period of 28days to record the need for organ support (newly diagnosed renal failure, need for renal replacement therapy [RRT], liver failure, coagulopathy and need for ventilation) and mortality.
