Osteoporosis contributes to the occurrence of falling and vestibular problems, particularly in elderly patients. This study aimed to investigate the association between bone metabolism with vestibular problems and falling. A total of 4054 participants of the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2009 to 2010 aged ≥50 years old were surveyed on their history of falling, vestibular problems evaluated by the modified Romberg test, variables involving bone metabolism, and serum levels of vitamin D and alkaline phosphatase. They also underwent dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. The crude (simple) and adjusted odd ratios (ORs) of variables involving bone metabolism for vestibular problems in the modified Romberg test and falling were analyzed using a logistic regression model. A subgroup analysis was performed according to sex and the presence of menopause in females. Vestibular problems in the modified Romberg test group but not the falling group were associated with decreased serumss-sectional study, the causal relationship of bone metabolism with vestibular function needs to be investigated.
In whole foods, polyphenols exist alongside a wide array of other potentially bioactive phytochemicals. Yet, investigations of the effects of combinations of polyphenols with other phytochemicals are limited.
The current study investigated the effects of combining extracts of beetroot, ginseng and sage with phenolic-rich apple, blueberry and coffee berry extracts.
This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover design investigated three active beverages in 32 healthy adults aged 18-49 years. Each investigational beverage comprised extracts of beetroot, ginseng and sage. Each also contained a phenolic-rich extract derived from apple (containing 234 mg flavanols), blueberry (300 mg anthocyanins) or coffee berry (440 mg chlorogenic acid). Cognition, mood and CBF parameters were assessed at baseline and then again at 60, 180 and 360 min post-drink.
Robust effects on mood and CBF were seen for the apple and coffee berry beverages, with increased subjective energetic arousal and hemodynamic responses being observed. Fewer effects were seen with the blueberry extract beverage.

Early diagnosis and rapid therapy are highly recommended by international guidelines. This study evaluates the accuracy of point-of-care B-line lung ultrasound in diagnosing AHF and monitoring the therapeutic success of heart failure patients. Materials and Methods This is a prospective mono-center study in adult patients presenting with undifferentiated acute dyspnea to a German ED. An eight-zone pulmonary ultrasound was performed by experienced sonographers in the ED and 24 and 72 h after. Along with the lung ultrasound evaluation patients were asked to assess the severity of shortness of breath on a numeric rating scale. The treating ED physicians were asked to assess the probability of AHF as the underlying cause. Final diagnosis was adjudicated by two independent experts. Follow-up was done after 30 and 180 days. Results In total, 102 patieound is a helpful tool for the early rule-in of acute heart failure in ED but only partially suitable for exclusion. Of note, the present study shows no significant changes in the number of B-lines after 24 and 72 h.Patients with dystonia experience unusual postures and disfigurement. The aim of the study was to examine changes in the body concept in relation to quality of life and severity of dystonia. Our cohort consisted of 20 patients with idiopathic dystonia resistant to medical therapy who were planned for pallidal deep brain stimulation. The results were compared to 25 healthy controls. The patients were assessed with Frankfurt Body Concept Scale, Short Form 36 (SF-36) Health Survey, Hamilton Depression Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, Social Phobia Inventory and Social Interaction Anxiety Scale. The disease severity was evaluated with Burke-Fahn-Marsden Dystonia Rating Scale and Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale. Patients with dystonia had a significantly impaired body concept in eight out of nine subscales in comparison to healthy controls. The differences were most pronounced for the subscales general health, body care, physical efficacy, sexuality and physical appearance (p less then 0.001). Furthermore, all eight subscales of SF-36 exhibited significantly lower values in patients with dystonia compared to controls. Impairment of body concept was not associated with disease severity or levels of social anxiety symptoms. However, there was a significant association between self-rated depression and disease severity. Our patients suffered from increased depression and social anxiety symptoms except social interaction anxiety. We conclude that patients with dystonia have significant body concept impairment that interferes with quality of life in both physical and emotional domains. Future studies should focus on assessing these symptoms after adequate therapeutic management of motor symptoms.Transient proteinuria and acute kidney injury (AKI) are characteristics of Puumala virus (PUUV) infection. Albuminuria peaks around the fifth day and associates with AKI severity. To evaluate albuminuria disappearance rate, we quantified albumin excretion at different time points after the fever onset. The study included 141 consecutive patients hospitalized due to acute PUUV infection in Tampere University Hospital, Finland. Timed overnight albumin excretion (cU-Alb) was measured during the acute phase in 133 patients, once or twice during the convalescent phase within three months in 94 patients, and at six months in 36 patients. During hospitalization, 30% of the patients had moderately increased albuminuria (cU-Alb 20-200 μg/min), while 57% presented with severely increased albuminuria (cU-Alb >200 μg/min). Median cU-Alb was 311 μg/min (range 2.2-6460) ≤7 days after fever onset, 235 μg/min (range 6.8-5479) at 8-13 days and 2.8 μg/min (range 0.5-18.2) at 14-20 days.
