Evolution Korea
The financial crisis that hit Asia caused a major review of the traditional system of government, business alliances, as well as public management of risks. In Korea, that meant a shift in the development paradigm.

All of this has created fertile ground for the spread of creationism. Several studies have shown that students who have religion-based backgrounds are more hesitant about learning about evolution than students without religion. However, the root causes of this phenomenon remain not clear. One explanation is that students who have religious backgrounds tend to be as knowledgeable about scientific theories and concepts and are therefore more vulnerable to the influence of creationists. Another factor could be that students who have religious backgrounds may see evolution as a concept that is agnostic, making them feel less comfortable.
2. Evolution and Science
In recent years, anti-evolution campaigns in schools have caused concern in the scientific community. A 2009 survey revealed that over 40% of Americans believe that biological evolution is a lie and that a belief in it would conflict with their religious beliefs. Despite the success of creationism in some states, many scientists feel that the best method to combat this inclination is not to engage it, but to inform the public on the evidence that supports evolution.
Scientists have a duty to teach their students about science and the theory of evolution. They should also educate the public on the process of scientific research and the way in which knowledge is verified. They must also explain how scientific theories are often challenged and modified. To overcome this issue, i use an ongoing dataset that gives me control for state and years fixed effects as well as individual-level differences in the beliefs of teachers about evolutionary theory.
Teachers who are more comfortable teaching evolution have less internal barriers. This is in line with the notion that more experienced faculty are less likely to avoid evolution-related topics in the classroom. They may also be more inclined to use strategies such as the reconciliatory method known to increase the acceptance of undergraduate students of evolution.
