6 μg m-3 over a 12-h sampling period. The use of personal fireworks can expose consumers to PM10 concentrations much higher, up to 9.51 mg m-3 from individual sparkler use under worst-case scenario assumptions. The inhalation of sparkler emissions for just 8 min can lead to an exposure to PM10 mass greater than that from daily recommended limits (50 μg m-3 exposure over 24 h). X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis indicated that potassium (K) and strontium (Sr) can be used as tracers for local firework use and that arsenic (As) may be an important contaminant during Guy Fawkes celebrations. The PM from personal fireworks contained large amounts of chlorine (Cl), which may be indicative of perchlorate oxidizers. In addition, lead (Pb) was observed in the PM generated from two of the colored sparklers, which were marketed as "safer" alternatives to more explosive firework products. The aim of this study was to analyze dispersion behavior characteristics and pollution hazard risk after a release of liquid chlorine. A full-scale model of liquid chlorine tanks in an area with a radius range of 3 km was established using FLACS (Flame Acceleration Simulator) code, and the chlorine dispersion characteristics of six leakage scenarios were calculated according to the POOL model, and the individual risk and social risk under different conditions as calculated quantitatively. The results show that leakage occurs in three stages dynamic dispersion, gravity dispersion, and atmospheric dispersion. Variations in dispersion processes were expressed as "outward expansion" and "inward contraction." At the same time, dispersion was accompanied by the phenomenon of "cloud separation." In the six leakage scenarios, the total distance of chlorine dispersion was 84-1000 m for a concentration of 225 ppm, and 27.5-401.3 m for a concentration of 900 ppm. The corresponding times (duration) to the farthest dispersion distance were 235-1345 s and 185-680 s, respectively. Chlorine concentration and dispersion distance are consistent in trend; however, the farthest dispersion distance shows a "delay effect" in time. At 225 ppm and 900 ppm, the delay time was 125-1145 s and 75-480 s indifferent leakage scenarios. The installation of a safety instrument system (SIS) can effectively reduce the risk of chlorine dispersion.Based on the panel data of 30 provinces (except for Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) in China from 2005 to 2016, a nonlinear threshold regression model and a carbon emission expansion models were constructed to empirically analyze the threshold effect of inward foreign direct investment (IFDI) and outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) on carbon dioxide emission intensity in China. The results show that (1) China's OFDI has increased carbon dioxide emission intensity while the IFDI has a significant inhibitory effect on carbon dioxide emission intensity. (2) The impact of the OFDI on carbon dioxide emission intensity gets influenced by the threshold effect of population size, economic development level, technology level, and environmental regulation. (3) The impact of the IFDI on carbon dioxide emission intensity also has threshold characteristics affected by population size, economic development level, and technological level. Hence, China should introduce more IFDI, optimize the structure of the OFDI, and exert its environmental improvement effect to satisfy the carbon emission reduction goal earlier. The impact of restrictions during various phases of COVID-19 lockdown on daily mean PM2.5 concentration in five Indian megacities (New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Hyderabad) was studied. The impact was studied for pre-lockdown (1st Mar-24th Mar 2020), lockdown (25th Mar-31st May 2020), and unlocking (1st Jun-31st Aug 2020) phases. The lockdown period comprises 4 lockdown phases with distinct measures, whereas the unlocking period had 3 phases. PM2.5 concentration reduced significantly in all megacities and met the national standards during the lockdown period. The maximum reduction in PM2.5 level was observed in Kolkata (62%), followed by Mumbai (49%), Chennai (34%), and New Delhi (26%) during the lockdown period. Comparatively, Hyderabad exhibited a smaller reduction in PM2.5 concentration, i.e., 10%. The average PM2.5 levels during the lockdown in the peak hour (i.e., 0700-1100 h) in New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Hyderabad decreased by 21.3%, 48.5%, 63.4%, 56.4%, and 23.8%, respectively, compared to those before lockdown period. During the unlocking period, except for Chennai, all megacities showed a reduction in average PM2.5 levels compared to concentrations in the lockdown period, but these reductions were mainly linked with monsoon rains in India. The current study provided an opportunity to study air pollution in the absence of major anthropogenic activities and during limited activities in monsoon season having an ecological design. The study reports a new baseline of PM2.5, except for monsoon, and explores this knowledge to plan future air pollution reduction strategies. selleck inhibitor The study also discusses how this new learning of knowledge could strengthen air pollution control policies for better air quality and sustainability.Graphical abstract.Ehrlich ascites carcinoma induces hepatorenal injuries while acridine derivatives have antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory. Thus, this study evaluated the protective potential of a newly synthesized the 9-diaminoacridine derivative (9-DAAD), N1-(acridin-9-yl) propane-1, 3-diamine hydrochloride, against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) induced hepatorenal injury in female mice. Forty female mice were allocated into 4 groups. Group I was injected with 0.1% DMSO subcutaneously and kept a control. Group II received 9-DAAD (30 mg/kg bw/2 days) subcutaneously for 2 weeks. Group III was injected interaperitonealy with 2.5 × 106 cells of EAC/20 g bw. Group IV was injected with EAC as the third group and administered with 9-DAAD as the second group for 2 weeks after induction of EAC. EAC significantly elevated total leukocytes and platelets counts; activities of serum AST, ALT, and ALP; serum levels of alpha-fetoprotein; carcinoembryonic antigen; urea and creatinine; and expression of vascular endothelial growth factor protein in hepatic and renal tissues.
