The aim of this study was to investigate the performance of ethanolic extract from Morus alba L. leaves (MLEE) in preserving chilled pork under retail conditions. The four treatments were 5 mg/mL sodium benzoate solution (SB), 1 mg/mL MLEE solution (high-concentration MLEE; HM), 0.5 mg/mL MLEE solution (low-concentration MLEE; LM), and 0 mg/mL MLEE solution (C). The quality characteristics, pH, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances values, metmyoglobin, total volatile basic nitrogen, and number of microbes of MLEE-treated chilled pork stored at 4 °C for 9 days were consistent with those obtained by the SB treatment and lower than those obtained by the C treatment. Sensory analyses showed that treatment of pork with MLEE did not have a negative impact on its sensory characteristics. MLEE can extend the shelf life of chilled pork from 3 days to 6 days (9 days) in first-class (second-class) fresh meat. Results suggest that MLEE could be a candidate resource in the preservation of chilled pork. This investigation utilized a large sample of individuals undergoing substance use treatment to examine the CES-D's structural validity and establish its predictive utility relative to treatment discharge. The sample included 5750 individuals who were receiving substance abuse treatment at 19 different residential treatment facilities. The CES-D was administered to participants over the course of their time in a residential inpatient substance use treatment program. The present study used a split sample method to conduct both exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analyses. Results of both the EFA and CFA indicated that the CES-D contains three first order factors measuring negative mood, positive affect, and interpersonal interactions as well as a second-order high score factor which can be used to guide interpretation and symptom monitoring. Individuals receiving residential treatment fell into one of three distinct groups based on their CES-D scores, and that their scores (and subsequent trajectories of scores over time) were differentially related to discharge status. Implications for practice and the utility of the CES-D within substance use populations are discussed.
Pallister-Killian syndrome (PKS) is a rare disorder caused by the mosaic tetrasomy of chromosome 12p, and is characterized by facial dysmorphism, developmental delay, hypotonia and seizures.

We report a patient with PKS showing unique polymicrogyria with calcification. He had delayed development and dysmorphic facial features including frontal bossing, hypertelorism, and high arched palate at 6months of age. Neuroimaging revealed unilateral polymicrogyria with spot calcifications, which predominantly affected the right perisylvian region. Chromosome G-banding showed the karyotype 46,XY, however, array-based comparative genomic hybridization analysis showed mosaic duplication of chromosome 12p, in which CCND2, which encodes cyclin D2 and is a downstream mediator of PI3K-AKT pathway, is located. Supernumerary chromosome of 12p was detected in 58% of buccal mucosa cells by the interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis using chromosome 12 centromere-specific D12Z3 probe. The diagnosis of PKS was some 12p might be involved in the abnormal neuronal migration in PKS.
Survival in people living with HIV (PLWH) has increased and thus people are aging with HIV, increasing the frequency of multimorbidity and polypharmacy. This cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of polypharmacy among PLWH who were on antiretroviral treatment and were followed in an outpatient setting by the pharmacy department of several hospitals across Spain. In addition, we aimed to evaluate factors associated with polypharmacy and treatment complexity among this population.

We recorded information on demographic data, data on disease control including viral load and CD4 count at the time of inclusion, comorbidities, pharmacologic treatment and drugs interactions. Luzindole Polypharmacy was defined as the use of 6 or more different drugs, including antiretroviral medication; major polypharmacy was defined as the use of ≥11 different drugs.

Overall, 1225 PLWH were eligible in the study. The median (IQR) age was 49 (40-54). Comorbidities were present in 819 (67%) PLWH and 571 (47%) had two or more comorbidities. Overall, 397 (32.4%, 95% CI 29.8-34.9) PLWH met the criteria for polypharmacy, and 67 (5.5%, 95% CI, 4.2-6.7) had major polypharmacy. Several factors were associated with polypharmacy such as type of antiretroviral treatment, presence of potential interactions, the use of several types of medications and the number of comorbidities. Treatment complexity was also a factor strongly associated with polypharmacy; for each point increase in the medication regimen complexity index (MRCI), the likelihood of polypharmacy increased 2.3-fold.

Polypharmacy is frequent among PLWH in Spain and contributes to a relevant extent to treatment complexity.

Aerobic biological treatment of hydraulic fracturing produced water was examined to degrade dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and polyethylene glycols (PEGs). Biological treatment experiments of three produced water samples with DOC concentrations ranging from 22 to 420 mg/L and total dissolved solids (TDS) levels ranging from 26 to 157 g/L were conducted in 48-240 h batches. Samples were not pretreated to remove suspended solids and were inoculated with activated sludge and acclimated over several weeks. Results show that between 50% and 80% of DOC was removed in 12-24 h but a sizeable portion, on a mass basis, remained in the samples with higher DOC concentrations. PEGs were also shown to readily biodegrade into singly- and doubly-carboxylated metabolites, but were not shown to degrade past that point, leading to accumulation of PEG-dicarboxylates (PEG-diCs) in the batch reactors. Possible explanations include residence times that were too long, resulting in starved microbial populations (and thus, a stopping of PEG degradation) or the presence of other ethoxylated additives that degraded into PEGs and PEG-diCs and fed this accumulation. This work demonstrates that a well-acclimated microbial culture is capable of degrading a large portion of DOC in hydraulic fracturing wastewaters across a wide spectrum of TDS concentrations, indicating that biological treatment is a viable option for enabling reuse of produced water.
